It’s a Hot One…Like Seven Inches From the Midday Sun

Boy Carlos Santana had it right, today is a scorcher. Summer is here with a vengence, sinking her hot talons into anyone’s flesh who is silly enough to stand outside for more than a couple of minutes.Which got me to thinking, what happened to my ability to withstand extreme temperatures?

I remember as a kid playing outside with sweat dripping off of me. It was so swelteringly hot that we had to keep the dogs sprayed down for fear they’d have a heat stroke. In fact, my Grandma’s dog Smokey didn’t make it due to the heat. I still feel bad about that. We couldn’t find him, because he’d crawled up under a bush after following us kids around all day. (But I digress.) The same thing went for cold temperatures. I remember riding my horses when ice had frozen most of the ground. Now I know I felt the cold, but it certainly didn’t stop my playtime.

I’m just wondering what changed. Is it because I moved to warmer climates? Is it because I’ve gotten older? I don’t have a definitive answer, but I sure do wish I still had a bit of the toughness and flexibility I had as a child.

Yo Ho, Yo Ho A Pirate’s Life for Me

Can you tell that I went to see Pirate’s of the Caribbean yesterday? Oh man, it was so much fun. If you enjoy the Disney ride you’re going to have a good time at this movie. (It’s my favorite Disney ride.) Disney did such a good job incorporating the ride into this movie. And Johnny Depp, in this role is by far the most entertaining part of this movie. He says he played the pirate like Keith Richards. I didn’t know that going into the movie, but laughed about it afterwards. Because he absolutely was Richards as a pirate. I highly recommend taking the kiddies young and old to this swashbuckling adventure. You won’t regret it. Arg!

Looking Back…

I spent the past few days going through boxes that I’d stuffed in closets to see what was in them. I found hundreds of cassette tapes and some rather embarrassing clothing choices that I’d rather not remember I made in the eighties. The weird thing is every time I do something like this it puts in the strangest mood. Instead of looking back and smiling at my antics it tends to make me sad. Now I don’t know if it’s sadness based on loss of youth or simply the realization so much has changed. I think looking back reminds me of all the people who have come and gone in my life. I sometimes wonder if I could have held on a little tighter, instead of letting go so easily.

Terminator Three

Went to see T3 today. Talk about action packed, not that I expect anything less from a movie like this. I could have done without the ending, but I have to admit it made sense. And in the end I really couldn’t see it being any other way.

Next up we have Pirate’s of the Caribbean and to be honest I don’t care if the movie sucks, as long as I have an hour and a half of uninterrupted eye candy walking around on screen. LOL! (Actually to be honest, I’d be really disappointed if it wasn’t a fun movie.)

I guess if it isn’t good then there’s always The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen on Friday.

Inventory Day

Over the past three days I’ve been doing inventory on my paperbacks. You may ask yourself why would I venture into the nightmare known as my TBR pile. Well the answer is simple I’m tired of buying a book only to find out I already have it buried in the mountainous pile. Luckily after 701 books and counting I’ve only managed to double up three times. I figure this is pretty good considering. I still have a few boxes to go through in the garage and closet before I’m officially finished. I don’t think that’s going to happen today. I’m tired of hauling books into the office. I hold out hope that some century I’ll be done. LOL!
