The Life of a Writer…

I received a phone call from a friend I hadn’t spoken to in quite a while. She asked me a fairly common question that I believe a lot of writers get: Where do your ideas come from?

The question was rather strange coming from her though, considering she’s a pretty artistic person in her own right.

I don’t think there’s really any way to answer that question honestly. I’ve been influenced by movies and television, but for the most part I get my ideas from the ether. As a kid I always had an overactive imagination. I don’t think much has changed since becoming an adult.

Managing Time…

Boy, I envy those people who can manage their time well. Just when I think I’ve got it down something comes along and throws my entire system off. I make notes, I use calendars, and I’m going to try to set up a database within my computer to help. If anyone has any thoughts, I’m open to suggestions.

Economy…

Contrary to what several government agencies have announced I haven’t noticed much change in the economy. My friends are still scraping, by barely able to make a living, wondering if they’re going to be able to keep a roof over their heads.

Several have been laid off from the tech industry, but apparently the recession is over and all is well according to congress and the senate. It must be wonderful to live in La La Land, while the rest of us poor shmoes exist in reality.

Romantic Times Review

Today I received my first review from the Romantic Times Bookclub. Needless to say, I am thrilled. I’ve been a big fan and avid reader of this magazine for years, always dreaming of the day my name would grace the pages.

Well today that happened, with one teensy weensy catch. The review rating they gave me on the mainstream page, which lists all the reviews in the section, gave me a four which was fantastic. I then went to read the review only to find three stars next to it. The review itself was terrific and I will absolutely thank the reviewer for doing such a wonderful job.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed by the missing star. I know it shouldn’t matter, but it’s not exactly how I imagined my first major magazine review to go. Oh well, sh** happens.

San Diego…

My dh and I have made a list of places we’d like to check out to see if we would like to live there. This past week we went to a conference in San Diego, which just happens to be one of the cities on our list.

The weather was devine, the scenery magnificient, and the people fairly friendly. Unfortunately all those fabulous qualities were not enough to make us want to pick up house and move.

Right about now you’re probably asking yourself if it was so fantastic why not keep it in the running. Well the truth is it was a nice place, but exceedingly expensive. I lived on the west coast for eight years, so I’m used to the expense of living in California. This put my original experience to shame. In the downtown areas, which were really nice by the way, the average one bedroom was selling for about $450,000. This would get you a great view, but the view wasn’t that great. (If you know what I mean. ;-)

So the search continues…

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my dad’s birthday. He’d not particularly thrilled about it, but what are you going to do? This isn’t a major milestone for him, but that doesn’t seem to matter. He doesn’t do birthdays too well. I hope that when major milestone birthdays start hitting me with a vengence I’ll be able to handle them with grace, if not a nearby liquor store will do. LOL! Happy Birthday, Dad.

Contest Over!

Hey Everyone! Sorry things have been so quiet. I’ve been out of town for a while. I just wanted to let everyone know that the contest is officially over, so if you entered the drawing will be announced next week. Thank you to everyone who took the time to send me your answers to the VERY EASY questions. Best of luck. Jordan
