The Joys of Writing a Synopsis

I have to say I’ve only written four of these in my life. (And it shows.) The scarest thing about this fact is that my first synopsis was probably the best, because I hadn’t learned the rules yet.

I was talking to my mom tonight and we got on the topic of lucky breaks. We talked about how I entered my first contest and finaled. We also talked about how the first publisher I ever submitted work to bought my novel. She called it lucky. I call it not knowing any better and I’ll tell you why.

There’s a very good chance that had I known how tough the contest I entered was, I wouldn’t have bothered entering. The same goes with submitting to a publisher. I find sometimes it’s best to be a little on the oblivious side. I’m not saying you shouldn’t gather knowledge, doing so is absolutely essential if you want to continue to final or publish. All I’m saying is sometimes it’s easier to take a chance, when you have no idea what the risks are.

I don’t want a lot for Christmas…

I’ve been thinking about Christmas wishes and all that those things entail. Every year I tend to combine Christmas wishes with New Year’s Resolutions. (I’m not sure there are dirtier words than those last three. ;-)

This year I thought it would be interesting to think about what you’d REALLY wish for if you knew that your wishes would come true. Would it be world peace? Good health for you and your family? (A personal favorite of mine. :-) Long life? Your brother not being sent to Iraq? Oops sorry, that’s another one of mine. Debt free? The perfect job? Cure for cancer? Space colonization? Immortality? Invisibility?

As you can see there are a lot of possibilities. I’d love to hear what you wish for this time of year.

Friend’s Triumph

A friend of mine sent me a note yesterday to let me know all his hard work had paid off and he’d finally earned a blackbelt in Jujitsu. I think it’s terrific. He’s had a lot of setbacks along the way, but didn’t allow any of them to stop him from achieving his goal. I wish him much happiness in whatever he chooses to do next. Way to go GD. :-)

EC’s Loss

A wonderful editor has left EC to pursue greener pastures. I just wanted to say that I for one will miss her. She worked tirelessly to make her authors better writers. She was a tough editor, but fair. Always pushing her authors to reach the next level. What some people don’t know is that she’s a hell of a writer. I know this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing of her. Allie, we’ll miss you.

Bombshell Chat

I just attended the Bombshell author chat. If you haven’t checked their site out, you should. I think the books are going to be pretty interesting from what they described. A lot of strong heroines will grace the pages. I can’t wait. If I could only manage more hours in the day. LOL!

Pirates is out on DVD

I know it’s pathetic, but I’ve been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD since I first saw it at the theater. It’s so much fun. I can happily watch it again and again.

Tomorrow dh and I are going to go see the release of the extended version of Lord of the Rings at the theater. Only one theater in the city is allowed to show the movie. Next week they’re playing Two Towers. Of course all of this is leading up to the release of Return of the King. Time to break out the tissue box. We couldn’t get tickets for the trilogy. I believe they sold out within an hour. I’m still pouting over this.

We did see a couple of funny movies the other day. Elf was a cute Christmas movie with a wonderful soundtrack. We also saw Bad Santa. That movie was wicked. An adults only film for sure.

Back in the Saddle Again…

Well it’s been a few days since I rambled on, so I thought it best to drop into my blog. I’ve been recovering from the flu. Unfortunately, didn’t dodge that bullet after all.

The holiday was nice, but quiet. Made it through another birthday, almost unscathed. ;-) Christmas is rearing its head and I must say I’m completely unprepared for the holiday. You’d think since it comes at the same time every year I’d at least try to be ready for it. Nope! Nuh Ah! Not a chance.
