Riddick

We went to see Riddick on Sunday. It was a fun enough movie if you didn’t look too deeply into the plot holes. There are lots of action sequences for the armchair adrenaline junkie, a few slamming one-liners, and some amazing costumes. It borrows a lot from Stargate, Aliens, and the Matrix. And no, it wasn’t near as cool as any of those movies. If you have a couple hours to kill, there are certainly worse ways to spend them than watching this movie.

My Brother’s 40th…

Yesterday was my brother’s 40th birthday. I, for one cannot believe it. Impossible! That would make me…hmm…Unthinkable. I hope that Bosnia ( he’s on active duty there) treated you well yesterday. Happy Belated Birthday. Love, your sister who is MUCH, MUCH younger. ;-)

Writing…

Things are coming along with the writing. I’ve finished two synopses and have done first round edits on the first hundred pages of a couple of ST manuscripts. I’ve also just finished the second chapter in a cowboy novella. With any luck, I’ll get the first chapter finished of another idea I’m working on. It’s a contemporary story about a sassy woman who gets herself in a bit of an exposed position. After that, who knows what whim I’ll pursue.

Brava Chat Last Night!

Whew! For those of you who missed it, we had a good time at the old Brava chat last night. Several Brava authors turned up, including Kathy Love, who writes for Kensington Zebra. We chatted about upcoming books, writing habits, favorite reads, interesting icons, and Brad Pitt’s butt. I was going to say you had to be there for the latter in order to appreciate it, but that’s not true. (wicked grin) If you couldn’t make it last night, there are two more chats scheduled for this year. Check out the Brava author site for information. You’ll find a link for the site on my ‘links’ page. Hope to see you there.

Great Reads…

There has been a lot of talk on the lists about the books everyone is reading. So I decided to make my own little list of some of my favorite reads/authors. If you get a chance, check them out.

In no particular order, Lori Foster (anything she writes involving brothers), Stephanie Laurens ‘Cynster Series’, Christine Feehan (anything she writes), Susan Sizemore’s ‘I Burn For You’, Angela Knight’s ‘Jane’s Warlord’, Susan Andersen’s ‘Getting Lucky & Baby Don’t Go’, Michele Albert ‘Getting Her Man’, Sherrilyn Kenyon (anything she writes), Karen Moning ‘Dark Highlander’, and Fiona Brand’s ‘Blade’s Lady’. Oh and if you want to check out a new author who puts a twist on what you’ve read about the ugly ‘Stepp’ sisters, check out Kathy Love’s ‘Getting What You Want’.

From Mountain to Mole Hill and Back Again…

It’s amazing how we can take something as simple as a yearly checkup and turn it into a scene that could come straight out of Hypochondriacs Guide to the Galaxy. Maybe it’s just me, but everytime I have to go to the doctor I’m convinced they’re going to find something horrible wrong with me. It doesn’t matter how fantastic I’ve been feeling up until that point.

The truly weird thing about this is I never used to be this way. I was always fairly bulletproof. Then I met my dh. We like to blame each other for this sudden malady. ;-) I think the truth is we’re so crazy about each other we’re scared something is going to jinx it. No wonder I like Monk so much. LOL! Until next time, don’t step on any cracks or break any mirrors.

Harry Potter & My Uncle’s Birthday

Harry Potter was a fun ride of a movie. I wish they would have explored more of the emotional aspects of the character’s long journey, but then the movie would’ve probably been three hours long. It will certainly not disappoint any Potter fan.

Today is my uncle’s birthday. I mention this for two reasons. The first is to honor him on this day. The second is to mention how easy it is to lose touch. It’s been a while since I’ve written or phoned him. I called today to wish him a Happy Birthday only to find out that his phone number had been changed. When I inquired about the number change I found out he’d moved. I hadn’t heard a word and wouldn’t have known if I had not phoned today.

It’s so easy to lose touch with people. Everyone is busy with their own life, their own families, etc. It simply reminded me again that you have to make time for the people who matter in your life.

Harry Potter Is Out!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited about going to see Harry Potter tomorrow. I listened to the story on tape and absolutely loved it. The critics are saying it’s the best one yet. I’ll write more about the movie once I get back from the theater.

Reality vs Fantasy…

I was just thinking about the differences between realistic programming versus make believe. The reason this came to mind is because my dh hates semi-realistic television shows like Law & Order and CSI. Yet, he loves going to movies like Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator. (And can’t get enough of first person shoot em’ ups on the PC.) Yes, both these movies were excellent, but I must say they bummed me out for at least a week or so after seeing them. In fact, it took a month before I could hear the Gladiator soundtrack without feeling sad. (In my mind, I’ve re-written the ending of Gladiator many times.) But I can watch CSI dissect bodies or Law & Order hunt sexual predators without blinking. I’m actually not sure what that says about either of our personalities. What do you all think?
