Can you believe it’s October already? Where has the year gone? Yikes! My personal deadlines are closing in rapidly and I’m nowhere near finished. Sigh.
I managed to make a ton of notes for my story yesterday. I plan to type them in…hopefully today. We have quite a social weekend planned, so I’m going to have to squeeze it in around visits with friends and going to the movies. ( I know, rough life.;)
My questions to you are: Have you met your goals this year? How close are you to finishing? If you’re not close, are you planning to participate in the ‘book in a month’ marathon that starts Nov. 1st?
October 1st, 2005

I did make my goal this year! I wanted to get one novel finished and submitted, the one that is now coming out in March with Triskelion. I also have a short story coming out in January with Torrid.
I am trying to write 20k a month, so I can have a rough draft finished by Jan 1. So far so good, but November is a bad month for writing with holidays and kid school stuff. We’ll see.
by Anonymous October 1st, 2005 at 11:05 amOops, above comment was from me.
by Becca Furrow October 1st, 2005 at 11:06 amBecca, Way to go! I wish I could say the same. I still need to finish the current novella and put together a hundred page partial by the end of Nov./beginning of Dec.
by Jordan October 1st, 2005 at 1:35 pmNo, I CANNOT believe it’s October already. I have 35K to go to meet my next deadline with SMP and I’m leaving for Nashville on Wed. I should be writing, not playing!
Other goals–Susan and I are sucking at getting the YA done, and I hope to get the next Return to Wonderland book done in Nov.-Dec. with Mackenzie. That’s the hope, anyway. Other than needing 35K in a bout 3 weeks, um, I guess I’m doing okay.
by Cheyenne McCray October 1st, 2005 at 3:30 pmChey, Is that all? Piece of cake! *ggg*
by Jordan October 1st, 2005 at 4:55 pmGoals what goals? OMG I’m so glad it’s OCTOBER! The heat it’s nearly gone!!!!!1 YIPPEEEEEEEEEEE
by Cece October 1st, 2005 at 5:33 pmCece, I wish it would start cooling off around here. The only way we can tell it’s fall is at night.
by Jordan October 2nd, 2005 at 12:08 amI live from overdue deadline to overdue deadline, so seeing as how my goal for the year was to meet all deadlines on time…I feel I haven’t accomplished this lol
Oh well, maybe next year…
by Jaid Black October 2nd, 2005 at 4:11 amI didn’t get all the things I wanted to do done, but I knew having a baby was going to throw off my schedule. I just have to make up for it now. It’s not like it’s a hardship, though, it’s NOT writing that makes me mental.
by Charlene October 2nd, 2005 at 6:58 amI seem to participate in the ‘book in a month’ marathon every book. Not on purpose. I have 2 - 3 months to write them, but, being an insane panic writer, I end up writing the bulk of the book in a month. ::sigh:: As to goals…yep. I’m on track, mostly. Although ‘Win the Lottery’ is still not checked off of my to-do list.
by Jo Leigh October 2nd, 2005 at 8:26 amMy goals kept changing (as I kept missing them. snort.)
by Jaq October 2nd, 2005 at 9:48 amJaid, I’d say you definitely missed that one. *g*
by Jordan October 2nd, 2005 at 6:48 pmCharlene, As that commercial goes, a baby changes everything. It’ll take a while to get things into balance. Give yourself time.
by Jordan October 2nd, 2005 at 6:49 pmJo, I’m the same way when I have a deadline. They might as well tell me the book is due the next day. Snort.
If you win the lottery, please remember your seventh cousin twice removed. That would be me. (wg)
by Jordan October 2nd, 2005 at 6:52 pmJaq, I hear you. I’ve completely blown my writing goals for the year. Not sure how it happened, but it did. :-/
by Jordan October 2nd, 2005 at 6:53 pmI’ve met only one of my goals, which doesn’t say much about me. I’ve been afflicted with the “writer’s blues” most of the year. As for participating in the NaNo Challenge, I did last year and it was great. I might do it again. All I need a catchy title, the right names for my hero and heroine, and a good first line. *LOL*
by Silma October 2nd, 2005 at 7:41 pmSilma, I have to say I’ve been suffering from the same affliction this year. It’s very hard to write when you’re down with that particular bug. Hang in there. The names, title, and first line will come. (((hugs)))
by Jordan October 2nd, 2005 at 8:18 pmI’ve achieved goals this year that I didn’t even realise I had when the year began! I completed a Black Lace novel and I’ve gotten a good way forward with my Ellora’s Cave novel [after a big rewrite] and it should be edited well before the end of the year, I should think. I think I’ve also got my writing mojo back too. I lost my way, trying to write for imprints that just didn’t suit me, but now I’m back doing what I’m best at and loving it as much as I ever did! So, yes, I think I’ve had a productive three quarters of a year so far. As to entering a book in a month challenges… no way, Jose! I value my wrists and my quality of life far too much!
by wendywoo October 3rd, 2005 at 4:58 amWendy, You said: I think I’ve also got my writing mojo back too. I lost my way, trying to write for imprints that just didn’t suit me, but now I’m back doing what I’m best at and loving it as much as I ever did!
I think that’s the most important thing you could’ve realized this year. I’m sure it’s an incredible relief. I’m glad you received pleasant surprises from your writing/career in 05. May they continue for years to come.
by Jordan October 3rd, 2005 at 11:09 amI actually just realized that my goals were further off than I’d originally anticipated. Unless I can whip out (aka complete) a couple more projects, this year will go down as my most unproductive year yet.
