Thank God and Greyhounds It

Forgive me as I Snoopy dance around the room. I am BEYOND relieved to have the first draft of this novella finished. If I haven’t mentioned it before, I’ll mention it now…I am officially finished with historicals for a while. I think that was part of my writing problem. I know that makes me sound fickle, since I often get tired of contemporaries too, but it’s the truth. I need a break from history.

I’m not sure if yesterday was my most productive day, but it was certainly close. I ended up writing over 6500 words. If only I could have writing days like that everyday. :-)

At this point, I have no idea if the story even makes sense. Right now, I don’t CARE! Have I mentioned it’s FINISHED? Bounce, bounce, bounce. I feel like Daffy Duck when he’s going off the deep end. All that’s missing is the looney laugh. It feels as if a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Too bad it didn’t come off my thighs instead. (wg)

How do you celebrate the completion of a story?

  1. Congratulations!! Usually I celebrate the completion by going out to dinner. No cooking that day!

  2. YAY Jordan!! WOO-FREAKIN’-HOO!!!!!! Eat some chocolate, woman! you deserve it!

  3. Congrats Jordan!! I LOOOVE that feeling of typing THE END! I usually celebrate with alcohol and a nice dinner out with the hubby and/or the crit group or both! :)

  4. Way to write, Jordan! That’s excellent. As for celebrating? I don’t do it enough. ::bad me:: Get pampered. That’s always good.

  5. Tess, That sounds like a good way to celebrate. Does having dh bring home food count? ;-)

  6. Trace, Thanks! I don’t think I have any chocolate in the house. I’m sure there’s a sin in there somewhere. *ggg*

  7. Tina, I did split a beer with my dh. Not exactly whooping it up, but what the hey. :-)

  8. Jo, I’m really bad about that too. I need to celebrate the small victories more. About the only thing I do is buy champagne if I make a decent sale. I’m going to have to give this some thought. I need to come up with something for the smaller stuff. I love the sound of pampering.

  9. Yay!!! Happy for you finishing. Isn’t it the best feeling?? I celebrate by shutting off the computer, taking a bubble bath, reading for pleasure–doing very sensual things to give my brain a rest.

I understand you wanting to put historicals aside. I write both historical and contemporary for that very reason–you need the switch to stay fresh and interested.

  10. Jennifer, It definitely feels good. There is no doubt. You write wonderful historicals. I love your pirates. :-) Taking a bubble bath sounds good and is along Jo’s pampering lines.

  11. Wow, congratulations!!! That’s absolutely marvelous dahling! You should definitely go get yourself a massage or a pedi, something pampering. ;)

  12. Shannon, Thanks! I’m definitely going to do something. I am just not sure what yet. :-)

  13. HAPPY DANCE! HAPPY DANCE! How about MASSAGE?? I am a sucker for a nice massage! Pedicures too. But then, pie, cake, cookies also work.

It’s a month for facing our need for new directions, as you know!

  14. Thanks Maddie! A massage sounds great. Oh goodie, just what I need, more directions to go in. LOL! ;-)

  15. Wahoo Congrats!!!

  16. Thanks Danica!!!

  17. You finished, Jordan? Yay, yay, yaaaaay! I celebrate completing a story by, well, um, collapsing into bed and sleeping for two days. Exciting, no? :) Congrats, my friend!

  18. Whoo Hoo, Jordan!!

  19. Whoever mentioned the massage–what a great idea! I’m going to try and finish my short novel by next Friday, and if I do, I’m getting that massage!

  20. How do I celebrate?

    Sleep.

Because I’ve probably been depriving myself. Sleep. Blessed sleep. Restful sleep. As much sleep as I want, for as long as I can get it. Cat-like sleep, dreamy sleep, scrunch-the-pillow-up-around-your-face sleep.

    Sleep without plots, lol!

  21. I’m about to knock out the last books of the year, and all I have planned is to take an extended bubble bath, paint my toenails and then fall on the bed and not move until someone needs food or chauffeuring.
Congrats on hitting the finish line, Jordan. :)

  22. I collapse on the bed, watch a DVD, and eat junk food. Now I’m on a diet *grrrr* so who knows what I’ll substitute the junk food for. It won’t be carrots, though, that I can promise you *g*

  23. One word… CHOCOLATE!

Well done on that 6.5K words… that’s phenomenal!

  24. Thanks Beth! I have no idea if it makes any sense, but it’s done. :-)

  25. Thanks Jaq!

  26. Laine, I have the name of a woman who sounds like she gives a good massage. I may have to phone her up and see. (wg)

  27. Raine, I’m not sure if I understand you correctly, but I ‘think’ you’re saying you like to sleep. *ggg*

  28. Thanks PBW! I’m feeling saucy, so I might try to knock out a quickie story. It would make me feel a whole lot better about the year if I could manage that and a partial to my agent BEFORE Dec. I think I’ll do my toenails today. ;-)

  29. Jaid, What happened to the fudge you ordered? ;-) As for carrots, I’m right there with you sister. Unless they’re ‘candied’, I can’t eat them. LOL!

  30. Thanks Wendy! I should’ve gone for 7K. I could’ve hit it, but I was just so happy to be finished I didn’t care. *g*

  31. PBW, with your family, someone will want food before you’ve finished painting your nails. ;-)

    on finishing the story.

  32. Thanks for the dancing conga line of mice, Gabriele! That’s great.
