Need Your Help

I’m down to the last 55 pages of my Blaze. Everything is cruising along nicely…that is, it was until I realized that my choice of non-lethal weapons isn’t going to work on an airplane.

Let me explain, I need my heroine to shoot the hero in order to save his life. I don’t want him actually injured during this process, just temporarily downed. I thought rubber bullets were my answer since they’ll drop even the biggest guy, but it looks like that’s not the case. (There’s a very good chance they’d penetrate.) I’m trying not to panic, but my mind is a BLANK as to how to fix this problem.

Anyone out there have any ideas??? Help!!!

  1. Hmmm, that’s a quandary. The British have a new kind of “bullet” called baton rounds, or pure plastic bullets. They use these in Northern Ireland because they are lighter, faster and more accurate than their predecessors. So far they have used them 168 times with no deaths. Other stuff I looked at said that death or injury can sometimes occur but not always – depends on proximity, where in the body they’re shot, etc. Perhaps you should just let her do it, take the chance – like she hasn’t really got a choice? Wish I could help you more.

  2. Eve, I read about those. I wasn’t sure if they’d work because she’s only going to be about thirty feet from him. I’ll look into it deeper. In this particular situation, she ‘doesn’t’ have a choice. Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate it. 🙂

  3. Jordan congrats on the home stretch!!!!!! What about a taser gun? Or does it have to be real?

  4. I had the same idea as CeCe.

How about one of those guns that shoot darts? Kinda like what scientists who do wildlife research use, filled with anesthetics?

    Or something less exotic: Chloroform.

  5. Cece & May, That may work. It needs to be strong enough to knock him over a row of seats. Something that attaches wouldn’t work because I need her to be able to fire the weapon again.

  6. Hmmm. Interesting challenge (I LOVE a challenge!)…

Stun guns ARE good, & very effective. She has to get pretty close to him for that.

Believe it or not, cayenne pepper spray is WONDERFUL. It’ll bring a man to his knees, & no permanent damage done. But the range may be limited to 10-15 feet.

    Mace is always good.

If you want unusual or exotic, blow dart guns really do work, but you’d need some kind of paralytic agent.

My personal favorite, if you insist on not killing, is the new Air Taser gun. It shoots out one to two darts attached to about 15 feet of wire, and is supposedly more effective than an automatic weapon. Electrical impulses neutralize the nervous system, and the victim falls immediately to the floor.

(Just realizing how gleeful I sound about it all–sorry!)

  7. Paralytic agent?

I’ve got just the one. Curare. But I think it may just make him collapse to the ground, not knock him over a row of seats. But the dose has to be just right though.

  8. Remind me that if I need to hurt someone to talk to Raine first LOL
    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  9. Wow, Raine. You’re my type ‘o woman!

  10. Geez, Raine, where were you when I needed to know how to get silver bullets and how they’d affect ballistics?

Jordan, what if he was wearing a bullet-proof vest? Would that resolve the problem?

  11. Raine, You’re the bomb. 🙂

  12. Happy Thanksgiving, Eve!

  13. Charlene, I could just squeeze the stuffing out of you. Thank you so much for the vest suggestion. I hadn’t thought of that. Doh!!!

You guys are the best. Thank you all for the great suggestions. I feel much better now.

  14. Sorry I can’t help here, but I specialise on Late Roman and Medieaval weapons, and those guys didn’t know anything about the concept of non lethal. 🙂

  15. >>Raine, You’re the bomb

And now you know why I take my plotting problems to her *ggg*

  16. Gabriele, Thanks anyway. I actually had Thanksgiving with a couple of gun experts. One actually works for a gun club, so he gave me the answer I needed.

  17. I’m going to use frangibles because they can be shot from any pistol. Apparently, most ATF agents carry 229 Sigs, so I’ll have that strapped to her thigh. Thanks again everyone for your help.
