Year of the Paranormal

I’ve decided to make my 2006 the year of the paranormal. What does that mean? Other than possibly editing a Blaze, (if I manage to sell my book) I plan to only work on my paranormal ideas. I have too many of them lying around, demanding attention. I can’t put them off any longer.

It’s strange, but with that decision made, I’m kind of excited about the 2006 writing year. I think it’s because I really dig these story ideas. They are plot heavy action/adventure paranormals with strong heroines. The love stories are definitely secondary in all, but one of the books. :-O I’m only moving away from romance a smidge. 😉

What is your focus for the New Year?

  1. My goal is to survive. LOL.

    Finish my current book.

Not put pen to paper for any ideas UNTIL they’ve finished cooking in my head–I think that was one of the problems with my current book, because I wasn’t sure what was supposed to be happening until it happened.

Keep up my blog. My current one is a record, because I’ve never succeeded at even the one-month milestone before.

    Read fewer blogs–difficult hehe.

    Happy New Year Jordan!

  2. May, I hear you on allowing things to stew for a while. I’m really bad about that. I get excited and want to jump in, when that’s not always the best game plan. 🙂 Happy New Year to you too and good luck with your plans for 2006.

  3. Sounds like a plan, Jordan! And a good one because you sound so excited about it. 🙂 My goal is much like yours… to write the stories that I’m really jazzed about. For me that’s one contemp and one western historcial. Both humorous with suspense elements. Here’s to a productive year!

  4. Beth, I am jazzed. Good for you for knowing what direction you’re headed in. I’m going to chart one of the stories tonight, since tomorrow we’re going to see Kong.

  5. My writing goal is really, really simple — finish just ONE book in 2006. Just saying that gives me hives. :p

  6. My goal is to make a decent living this year. That means writing a lot of books. I’m sharpening my pencils even as I type. 🙂

Happy New Year to you, Jordan, and thanks for sharing so much of your wonderful self this year through your blog. I’ve truly enjoyed it.

  7. Mariann, You can do it! If you need to, start with a shorter book and work your way up. Sometimes they’re less intimidating. 🙂

  8. Jo, That’s a great goal to have. I think that’ll be next for me after I get my career back on track. *g* Happy New Year to you too and thanks for stopping by and sharing so much of your wisdom with us. 😀

  9. I’m with you, Jordan. LOVE my paranormals! My goals are to finish the books I’ve started! So for the three I have listed on my blog…to get all of them to 100%. Wish me luck. I’m gonna need it. Two are full length 100K novels. 🙂

  10. Patrice, Good luck!!! I’m sure you’ll do fine. Love your paranormals.

  11. Good luck!

I think my focus, something I learned from Jo in a chat ages ago, is learning to edit myself. I think that’s my biggest weakness and I want to turn it into a strength.

  12. Haven’t got a clue.

  13. To finish a book in 2006. But more importantly, just to write, period. I haven’t been able to sit down and put words to paper in months, so I think just getting something, anything down to get me back into the groove of writing would be good. Oh, and I guess finding my bedroom would be a great idea too. *g*

  14. Danica, Editing is difficult, but well worth the effort. Good luck!

  15. Raine, I bet you do. *g*

  16. Eve, You have to walk before you can run, so take baby steps to get back into it. I find giving myself a really low number of words to start with works well. Good Luck! 🙂

  17. Happy New Year and New Writing : )

  18. Robin, Thanks and you too.

  19. Happy New Year Jordan!!!

My 2006 goals, to finish three erotic WIP’s I have, rewrite a fantasy I have, and write one romantic comedy. I also might dust off a screenplay I wrote 3 years ago, that almost got a green light…(I gave up screenplays after that huge disappointment) and see what I can make happen.

  20. Finish the first draft of one of my three NiPs at least, and get down in weight one size (5-6 kilo should take care of that) and keep it down. 🙂

  21. Oh, and Happy New Year to you.

  22. Wow Vivi Anna, that is ambitious. Good for you! Fingers crossed you pull it off. My dh had a similar experience with screenplays in the UK, except they went back and forth accepting and declining it. He stopped shortly thereafter out of frustration. Good luck with yours and Happy New Year!!!

  23. Gabriele, Happy New Year! And good for you for working on your weight. It’s definitely a huge priority for me in 06. I’ve already started…even though I haven’t seen any progress yet…but I’ll definitely keep at it. Perhaps all of us who want to lose weight can badger each other. 😉
