Playing Favorites

We’ve been talking about tastes in heroes and heroines in the past few days. I thought it would be interesting to list some of your favorites. With that in mind, name your top five heroes and heroines. I’ll start. :)

My favorite heroes are: Gian in Mine to Take by Dara Joy, Jack in Captain Jack by Stephanie Laurens, Devil Cynster in Devil’s Bride by Stephanie Laurens, Callan Lyons in Tempting the Beast by Lora Leigh, and Dayan in Dark Melody by Christine Feehan. (Bonus heroes Rafael De Santos in Fur For All by Christine Warren and Rejar in Rejar by Dara Joy)

Now for the heroines. This is SO much harder, but here it goes. My top five favorite heroines: Elena Michaels in Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, Amber in The Hunter by Gennita Low, Lily Yu in Tempting Danger by Eileen Wilks, Jac in Atlantean’s Quest 2: Exodus by J.S. (wg), and Destiny in Dark Destiny by Christine Feehan. (Bonus heroines Anita Blake in Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton, Corinne in Fighting Faer by Christine Warren, and Beryl St. Cloud in Blood and Kisses by Angela Knight.) Now it’s your turn. Who are your favorites?

  1. Who’s J.S.? *gg*

Gawd, my minds too full to answer this one right now - I’ll put my $0.45 in later (inflation, you know).

  2. I’m not going to go crazy and try and remember who mine are. I sooo don’t have time to reread.

But I agree on Eileen Wilks’s Lily Yu (you’ve read Mortal Danger already, haven’t you?), though I prefer Gennita Low’s Marlena Maxwell to Amber Hutchens.

PS It occurs to me that Dayan’s heroine was another one with health problems.

  3. Some of my recent favorite heroines: Mia Snow from Gena’s Alien Huntress series, sorry but my own Hell Kat, :-), Rachel Morgan from Kim Harrison’s witch series, Mika from Through A Crimson Veil by Patti O’Shea, Mercy Thompson from Moon Called by Patricia Briggs, Kevla from On Fire’s Wing’s by Christie Golden, Paige from Kelley Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld.

Some heros that left impressions on me: Keir from Warprize by Evelyn Vaughan, Zadist from Dark Lover (yes he’s only a minor character but I love him already), Gray from Heart of Atlantis by Gena Showalter, Jean-Claude from Anita Blake series, Doyle and Frost from her Merry Gentry series.

  4. Oh gosh… There are so many fave heroes. I can’t pick? Zarek in “Dance with the Devil” by Sherrilyn Kenyon (although all her Dark Hunter heroes are yummy!), and Rejar in “Rejar.”

As for heroines, I don’t care much for them unless they’re from series like Anita Blake, Sookie (series by Charlene Harris), and Rachel Morgan (series by Kim Harrison).

  5. Eve, Anytime you’re ready. :-)

  6. May, I haven’t read Mortal Danger yet, but it is in my TBR pile. I’m really looking forward to reading it. Which book of Gennita’s are you talking about? Right now, I’m trying to finish the anthologies I’ve grabbed. I have a couple more stories in each to read and then I’m done. As you can tell, I read several books at once. :-)

You’re correct that the heroine in Dark Melody was terminally ill. She was trying to hold on long enough to have her baby.

  7. Vivi Anna, I have the two books you mentioned by Gena in my TBR pile. I’m really looking forward to reading them. I also have Through a Crimson Veil and Dark Lover. I agree that Jean-Claude is hot. It’s a shame she destroys his character later in the series. I like Frost and Doyle. They would probably be in my top ten. ;-) I listened to one of those books on tape. Lots of shagging, but a few interesting characters. :)

  8. Silma, Zarek in Dance with the Devil is definitely hot. I haven’t finished the book yet, but I can certainly see his appeal. Like you said, several of the Dark Hunters are enticing. *ggg* Sookie’s also a fun heroine. I’ve read the first book in that series and have the next four, but like I said earlier, I rarely make it through an entire series. Which reminds me, I forgot a hero. I’d also have to add Roark from the In Death books by JD Robb/Nora Roberts. He’s yummy. (wg)

  9. I don’t retain names so I’m gonna be like may. I can however list titles. Mr. Perfect and Open Season–definitely two of my all-time fave leading men and ladies. And darn near most of SEP’s leads (but not all. there’s one book I have serious issue with but name escapes me…too lazy to look LOL). Also Julie Garwood’s historical leads-for the same reason as SEP.

I actually do love heroines who can lead their men on a merry dance, drive them bonkers and still make them fall in love with them. Obviously humor is a biggie for me (even in my suspense).

  10. Okay, favorite heros and heroines:

1 Aisling Gray, Guardian and Drake, Green Dragon - Fire me Up, Katie McAlister. For best secondary Character — Jim, the dog/demon from Hell that’s bound to Aisling

    2. Betsy Taylor, Vampire Queen, and Sinclair, Vampire King — Undead and Unwed, by Mary Janice Davidson

    3. Bubbles Yablonsky, Hairdresser meets PI — Bubbles Unleashed, by Sarah Strohmeyer.

    4. Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, and Ranger, bounty hunter — the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

If I went on and on, it could fill up the comments, so I stop where I’m at now.. :)

  11. Cece, I agree that the heroine should lead the hero on a merry chase. He wouldn’t want her if she was easy to catch. ;-)

  12. Candace, That’s a good list. Thanks for sharing. :)

  13. Okay - short list compared to everyone else, but it’s all I can manage at the moment. I did have to stop myself because I was beginning to list nothing by “The Shalvis”, so let’s just say all of hers, including: Heroines - Mia Appleby from “Her Sexiest Mistake” and Breanna Mooreland from “Get a Clue”; Lucy Savage from “Getting Rid of Bradley” by Jennifer Crusie. Heroes: even though I’ve just started reading it I’m going to include Bo Black from “Aussie Rules” by Shalvis because I can already tell he’s a keeper; Nick Walker from “She’s Got the Look” by Leslie Kelly; Bram Giles by Lori Foster from an anthology entitled “Hot and Bothered”.

  14. Eve, I believe I see a theme here. ;-)

  15. A little off topic here, but my son’s name is Dayan and I rarely see his name anywhere, so I just did a double take with your entry. lol.

  16. Wait! Clay from BITTEN and the hero (Adrian?) from THE ROMANTIC. ::double droooool::

  17. I like humor in my characters - lots. And I love Lucy Savage because she is an average woman who ends up kicking ass without waiting for the hero police officer to do it for her. Gotta love that baseball bat!

  18. Jaq, That’s cool. I’d never seen the name before Christine Feehan’s book. I have the Romantic in my TBR pile. So much to look forward to. :)

  19. Eve, I’m trying to remember if I have that book. Hmm…

  20. If you don’t, you should. It was originally a Temptation, but has been re-printed. It was the first Crusie book I read and its what got me hooked on her.

  21. Eve, I looked on my bookshelves, but I don’t think I have it. :-/ I have several other books by her though.

  22. The book with Marlena Maxwell is GLow’s very first, Into Danger. The one with Amber Hutchens is The Protector. And I love Aisling Grey!

  23. Thanks May!!!
