First off, I think the next round of book deals seem to be occurring. Sharon from Writeminded just landed another book deal. This time with Berkley. Also Anya Bast, a long-time EC author, just landed a book deal with Berkley.
Berkley seems to be snatching up a lot of terrific authors these days. I wonder who will be number three, since these things seem to come in batches.
In other locations on the web, the debate about the Rita Awards is heating up. (The Rita is the big award that Romance Writer’s of America give out at their National convention.) It will take place next month in Atlanta, Georgia. The debate is about the Rita categories. Let’s just say there isn’t a hot one and a lot of people believe there should be. Me, I have an opinion, but you know what they say about those…*ggg*
Other than that, I’m editing away. I tried to write and edit, but as always I can’t seem to split my attention that way. :/ So it looks like I’ll have to bust my butt to finish edits so that I can get back to my urban fantasy. I must admit, I REALLY miss it.
It was a strange day yesterday. I went in to workout at my gym and found out that it was closing. Yes, you read that right. They closed my gym. I’m not sure yet what I’m going to do as an alternate. It was not only a way for me to exercise, but also to get out of the house regularly. It’s going to be hard to replace. I’m looking into alternatives now.
I had something more to add, but for some reason I spaced. I am off to meet a friend for coffee, so I’d better scoot before I’m late. If I remember what it was, I’ll post it later. Hate it when that happens.

I wrote another chapter last night on my urban fantasy. I’m sitting at page eighty-two and I must admit, starting to get worried. I took a couple hours to chart out the rest of the book. It went okay. I think it’s a nice blend of action, romance and scary stuff. Here’s my problem, right now, I don’t think it’s going to be long enough. By that I mean, I think it’s going to fall short of 90K, which would severly limit the amount of places that I could shop the manuscript to.
I’m going to go over the first five chapters tomorrow to see if they’re missing any information that needs to be there. I also have to start my edits on the other book, since I haven’t done that yet this weekend.
What do you want to accomplish this week?
Wrote another chapter in my urban fantasy today. I should hit seventy-five pages tomorrow. It’s coming along nicely. Going to have to play with the storyline a bit to make sure I know what the next few chapters will hold.
It’s been a long time since I’ve written this much by the seat of my pants. I have to admit that it makes me a little nervous, which is weird considering I used to write this way ALL the time. I guess I’ve changed or my writing has…or perhaps it’s a bit of both.
Anyway, I’m pleased with the progress and the story. I am surprised by how much fun I’m having writing this book in first person. Yes, it still scares me because I’ve never done it before, but it’s also extremely liberating. Maybe I should’ve tried it sooner.(wg) Nah, probably not. I don’t think I was ready.
Is there anything artistic you’ve been wanting to do, but were afraid to try? Perhaps now is the time. ![]()
Dh went to the mailbox last night and brought back my new box of Blazes. I must say there are some good sounding ones in there this month. The main one I want to talk about today is Hidden Obsession by Joanne Rock. It’s a Blaze…and a TIME-TRAVEL. Yep, you read that right. It’s a time-travel that sends the hero back 800 years.
Now, I know everyone has an opinion about category romance and time-travels for that matter, but I ask that you do me this one favor. Even if you never buy Harlequin Blazes, PLEASE go out and purchase this book. WHY? Because I’d really like to see the Blaze line accept more paranormals. Selfish, I know.
Anyhoo, back to the book delivery. I swear it’s like tearing into presents at X-mas, when that box arrives. I get so excited and nearly squeal with delight. And believe me when I say, I’m NOT a squealer. I don’t tend to like surprises…period.
The other books in the batch are Letting Go by Mara Fox. It’s a Wrong Bed story that actually sounds cute. A woman goes on a singles cruise after her boyfriend cheats on her. She finds a Latin lover named Andres and goes shag crazy. *g* She’s happy until she returns to work and discovers her ‘Latin lover’, whose name isn’t Andres, but Tony, working as the new system’s analyst. I thought it sounded funny, so I’m looking forward to reading it.
The next book is called The Player by Rhonda Nelson. It’s a Men out of Uniform book. The premise is a Ranger promises his commanding officer one favor after he gets out of the military. The commander calls in that favor by asking him to seduce his granddaughter away from another man. Sounds hot, doesn’t it?
The other one that sounds interesting is Two Hot by Cara Summers. It’s basically about a woman who decides to act upon a long-running attraction by sleeping with the object of her desire. The sex is incredible, which is why she’s shocked to find herself attracted to ‘another’ man two days later. I think the story is a bit like Superman and Clark Kent. Same guy, different looks.(wg) I did think it was an interesting premise.
The other two books are more straight forward. Destiny’s Hand by Lori Wilde is a bit of a ‘rebuild a relationship’ story, but it’s part of the White Star series. A husband and wife wanting to put the spark back in their marriage plan mutual seductions. One becomes obsessed with the White Star box and has to be saved by the other. Karen Kendall’s Midnight Touch is an After Hours book. Her heroine is trying to escape her rich family, while the hero hides his true occupation.
All and all, a pretty good roundup.
Have any of you bought any books that have slayed you lately?
