I swear getting a hold of a Nintendo Wii is harder than wrestling greased seals. Every store is allotted some stupid number like 3. Yeah, that will go far. Then there are the usual scalpers, who have jacked the prices up. They’re now starting at $500+ for a machine that costs $250. Sigh. It doesn’t look like Santa will be bringing this game console this year.
We went out yesterday for a small wander around the stores. Dh isn’t feeling well, so we didn’t stay out long. (Have I mentioned how much I HATE crowds?) Sadly, it has just dawned on me that Christmas is in three weeks. I haven’t bought ANY presents yet, nor have I addressed a single X-mas card. Yikes! Yikes! And double Yikes! I’ve been so caught up in this book that I haven’t thought of anything else. Sigh. Looks like tomorrow I’m going to have to put together a list of everything that I need to do. So not looking forward to that.
I’m not in a bad mood or anything remotely like that. Just feeling a little overwhelmed. What do you do when you’re feeling overwhelmed by the holiday season?
December 3rd, 2006

Ignore it and hope it goes away. Then wind up panicking the last week or so.
by raine December 3rd, 2006 at 12:08 pmRaine, I don’t think that’s going to work. I have gifts to buy for the UK and the States. :-/
by Jordan December 3rd, 2006 at 12:14 pmI decided not to have one. ROFL.
by May December 3rd, 2006 at 12:47 pmI take a nice hot bath, drink a glass of wine and read a great book.
Oh, and I’ve found giftcards to be wonderful presents…and it seems like all the grocery stores are carrying them now.
And tell Si I hope he feels better soon.
by Julia Templeton December 3rd, 2006 at 1:26 pmHope you have a wonderful, peaceful day.
Hugs!
Sorry about your Wii woes. If it makes you feel better, it will be worth it to finally get it. It’s a very cool console and lots of fun.
I make time to just sit and relax and read a good book when things get overwhelming. Sometimes it’s hard, but you got to make that time or you’ll go nuts.
by Nicole December 3rd, 2006 at 2:09 pmMay, I don’t think I can do that either. *g*
by Jordan December 3rd, 2006 at 4:37 pmThanks Julie. I do plan to hit a lot of Amazon wish lists.
by Jordan December 3rd, 2006 at 4:37 pmNicole, I have no doubt that the Wii will be worth it. We already own every other gaming console. Hopefully I’ll be able to snag one somewhere.
by Jordan December 3rd, 2006 at 4:38 pmI was lucky enough to get a console for my 13 year old son. It was ALL he wanted for Christmas so when they went on pre-orders in November, I was there for opening time. Apparently people had been lining up and sleeping on the sidewalk since the night before. I certainly wasn’t about to do that. They had 4 left when I got there. Then when the actual console came in, I had 24 hours to pick it up. My son came with me when I picked it up. Talk about torture, it’s here in the house and he knows he can’t have it until Dec 25th!
by Cathryn Fox December 4th, 2006 at 7:48 amCathryn, Wow! That is rough. We should’ve pre-ordered. My dh normally takes care of that, but for some reason he didn’t this year. So now it’s a race to get to the various stores before they open. Sigh. Like you, I’m not about to sleep on the sidewalk.
by Jordan December 4th, 2006 at 10:33 amlike Cathryn that’s all my son wanted. Of course he told me AFTER they went on sale (and I’d been so deep in my writing hole I had no idea what it was) and there was no way I’d find one. I’ll admit I coughed up the bucks on Ebay (and for ebay got a good price). It’s been an especially good year and if that’s all he wants then so be it.
THEN Brandon tells me yesterday that he just wants gift cards for Christmas. I freaked. But he said it’s cuz he didn’t think I’d find a Wii!
I’m totally stoked!
As to your Christmas Shopping Woe, hit Aazon baby and every other online retailer you can think of. Drop ship those presents to England and buy gift bags for the presents at home. I do a LOT of online shopping bec. I only get a few free weekends before Christmas. I also will usually make a list and hit Target early one Saturday morning to knock out the stocking stuffers etc.
I hit Old Navy last week and got each of the boys an outfit plus sweatshirts for my nephews, Ebay, and then Amazon for games for the Wii and the PS2 that #2 is getting for his birthday on the 30th.
by Cece December 4th, 2006 at 11:08 amOne day at a time *g*. It’s the only thing that helps me keep my sanity. It’s hard enough this time of year without adding in book deadlines and everything else work related. Yikes, huh?
by Jaci Burton December 4th, 2006 at 12:30 pmCece, I broke down and went to eBay. It wasn’t worth the hassle.
by Jordan December 4th, 2006 at 7:27 pmJaci, I know some people can plan their down time. I’d sure like to know how they do it. *ggg*
