Babbles and more

I’ve been distracted by life as of late. Haven’t really had much to say. Been doing a lot of thinking lately about what I want, what will make me happy, web designs, buying homes, etc. I need to get it together quick before my books release next year. The problem is that right now I’m feeling overwhelmed by everything I need to do. How am I going to be able to buy all the promo ads, redesign the website, go to all the conferences without bankrupting myself? Not to mention keeping up a little thing called writing.*wg* Yeah, I don’t have the answers either.

It’s so important these days to help launch the first book in a series. With very few exceptions, it’s mandatory. I’m counting on the fact that my book is different than all the other paranormal romances out there right now. Will that be the case come next year? Will that be enough to make my book stand out? I don’t know, but I somehow doubt it.

On top of all that, I realized the other day that this is the first year that I don’t have a new release coming out. Atlantean’s Quest: Fall from Grace came out earlier this year, but it contains two of my older books along with a newer one, so it doesn’t really count. I could probably write something for an epub, but I’d have to have my agent negotiate the contract and there’s no guarantee it would be released this year. Not sure it’s worth the effort. Besides, I’d rather have my agent concentrating on my single titles. (Fingers and toes crossed that she likes the urban fantasy and can sell it.)

As you can see, I don’t really have any answers, only questions. Sigh. I’m currently waiting for Harlequin edits, which should be here any day now. I have a few tasks to do. Nothing big, but combined, they’ll probably take up most of the day. Tomorrow, I’m going to have coffee with my elderly neighbor. That should be fun. She’s a really neat lady. I actually like hanging out with older people. I find them interesting. They always have great stories. :)Well I’d better get to it. Hope everyone is having a wonderful week. Ciao!

On a separate note, if you want the Dresden Files to return to the Sci-fi network, then you need to go here. I really want the show back. I liked it a lot.

  1. If you figure out how to do it all without going broke and still having time to write more books, fill me in on the secret. *g* I would have loved to have done more for Wild Wild West, but I did what I could afford in terms of time and money. You’re launching a series so you’re right, it does need the effort behind it.

I’m there with you in the “what makes me happy” list of changes. I’d like to increase my happiness a lot in the coming year. Which starts with me.

  2. Charli, I will. 🙂 Yes, I think when you’re launching a series it’s important to do as much as possible. You’re absolutely correct that happiness starts at home. 😉 I’m happy in my life, but I definitely have to figure out the career thing.

  3. Have they told you what the initial print runs on your books will be, Jordan?

I think it was Emerson who wrote: To fill the hour, that is happiness. It seems by his definition, you won’t have any time to be anything but happy. 🙂

  4. Bernard, I don’t know what the Tor books will be. I actually need to find out. I have been told the print run for the Blaze, but the number seems a little high and oddly matches the word count. Not that I’m not grateful. I am. I know that Blazes have a built in readership, so maybe they need to print that many books. *g* I have no idea. It’s a whole new experience for me. 🙂

  5. I took a few weeks ‘off’ – I feel ya. I think all of us do at one time or another.

Congrats again regarding the sale to Harlequin!

Be kind to yourself, very forgiving, and take deep breaths. All will work out in its own time.

  6. Sunny, You’re right. Breaks are needed. 🙂 Thank you for the congrats and the kind words. 😀

  7. Dresden Files, huh? That hasn’t reached Asia-Pac yet…I don’t think. I’m still mourning “Chronicles from the Edge”…can’t wait until they release that one, lonely, immensely enjoyable, series on DVD. *sniff*

  8. Kaz, What can I say? I love the Dresden Files. Sorry it hasn’t reached your side of the world yet. :/

I don’t think I’ve seen that one. I’ll have to look it up.

  9. Geez…no matter where you are in this biz, the worrying never stops, does it?

I’m sure the agent will love it, and it’ll sell like crazy. 😉

Of course, then you’ll have to worry about what to do with all that money…lol!

  10. Raine, No, it doesn’t stop. It only changes. *ggg* Here’s hoping. I learned early on not to count on ANYTHING in this business. Probably why I don’t get excited by much. LOL! That’s worry I’d ‘try’ to live with. Snort. 😉
