The Edits are Coming, The Edits are Coming, The Edits are Coming

Yep, got the call today that my copy-edits for my Blaze, OFF LIMITS have been mailed out and I should receive them tomorrow. My guess is that the copy-edits for my Tor book, RED won’t be far behind. I’m not complaining. I just find it very difficult to switch gears once I’ve started a project. At least CE’s are something that I can get done fairly quickly.(Knock on wood.)

For those of you who haven’t heard, Harlequin is merging it’s Everlasting line with it’s Superromance line. There will no longer be an Everlasting line. (That was quick.) Also, the NEXT line is shutting down. Rumor has it they may start up again as trade size books, but that hasn’t been confirmed. Cha-cha-cha-changes happening all around.

Today I plan to read through what I wrote yesterday. I know that doesn’t exactly follow the FAST DRAFT plan, but I’d really like this opening chapter to pop. I have a LOT of info to convey in this second book of the series and I’m trying very hard not to info-dump, while still catching the reader up who hasn’t picked up the first book in the series. (Those whimpers you hear are the silent tears that I’m shedding. *ggg*) Hi, Ho, Hi, Ho, it’s off to…well you know the rest. Later gators.

One Chapter Down–Lots to Go

I’m finishing up the first chapter on my new book. It started out rough. Okay, it sucked eggs. But, I think I have it fixed now. I have three more things to add and then it’s onto chapter two. Slow and steady wins the race or so my dh says.

I just got back from my haircut check. The guy who does my hair has a complimentary service that he offers. He checks the cut in between the regular cuts to make sure that it’s laying properly. If it’s not, he snips it until it is. Pretty cool, eh? :) I even got to see D while I was there. It was a win-win day.

Still no news on the house. We’re currently waiting for the last piece of info to arrive, then we can turn everything in. My guess is we’ll find out if we have it by the end of next week.

On a super cool note, look what I found. Woo Hoo!!!

Well I’m off to grab some lunch and then get to work. I found a great book on my shelves the other day. (Imagine, snort!)It’s called THE ELEMENTS OF FICTION WRITING: SETTING by Jack Bickham. If you are a writer and haven’t picked it up, then rush out and get it. I learned a lot just by reading the first five pages. On a different note, has anyone picked up and read the new L.L. Foster book called Servant? I want to buy it, but I’d like to hear a few reviews first.

Culling Stuff

Even though we still haven’t found out about the house yet (who knew these things took so long), we’ve decided that it’s time to get rid of a lot of junk stuff. We want the move to go as smoothly as possible. Even if we don’t get this house, we think it’s time to cull our belongings. Now so far, I haven’t been able to come up with a lot of books. I think this has to do with the major culling I did six months ago. I pretty much left what I wanted to read. I have trimmed the shelves a little more, but still haven’t filled a box.

Part of me is disappointed and the other part is pleased that I did such a good job the first time. I’m sure I’ll make up for the small amount when I hit the garage. I have a few boxes of books down there. You know the kind that you don’t want to get rid of because you may read them again someday or the ones you believe that you should read because they’ll make you a better person. Yeah, those. My guess is that most will go.

I have mixed feelings about culling (not only books, but possessions). There is a part of me that twice a year feels like throwing away half the things that I own, which is fine for the most part. Unfortunately, the part of me that exists for the rest of the year likes to hang onto everything. I don’t ‘collect’ items per se, but I certainly cling to things like I’ll need them the second they’re gone. I have no idea where this comes from. I mean I know my parents are like that and I suppose my grand-parents might have been like that, since the latter lived through WWII and rationing. I guess some things you pick up by osmosis.

For those of you who’ve made a major move, did you throw away a lot or did you bring everything with you? If you were once a hoarder, but aren’t anymore, how did you get over it?
