Tomorrow is the fourth of July. I have a post coming out at Romancing the Blog. In my younger days, I made sure to attend some kind of fireworks display. Not so much over the last ten years or so. Being married to a Scot probably plays a part in it, but it’s also because I really don’t like large crowds. There was a time when they didn’t bother me, but that ended when I was nearly crushed at a rock concert. That has a way of changing ones perspective rather quickly.
On Saturday we have a couple of friends, Jason and Michelle coming over for pizza. Should be fun, since we haven’t seen them since their wedding.
I wrote on Tuesday, but didn’t manage any words yesterday. (Something is wrong with the book and I’m trying to pinpoint the problem. I think it’s in the last two chapters I wrote, since I didn’t think there was a problem until then.) Instead, I spent the day stuffing envelopes with bookmarks and RED arcs. I ran out of envelopes.
I have about 18 more to go. It’ll have to wait a few weeks. I’m dreading the cost of postage since several of the packages are headed overseas.
(Mental note to self: Won’t be doing this again unless I’m being paid the big bucks.)
Other than that, I haven’t been up to much. I’m currently reading Marjorie Liu’s new book, The Iron Hunt. Very poetic writing. I’m also reading, The Last Vampire by Patricia Rosemoor and Marc Paoletti. The latter is a fun read, but reminds me a lot of the Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser. Still haven’t managed to see Wall: E or Get Smart. Hopefully we’ll remedy that soon.

I don’t like crowds any more, either. No, I’m not getting old. *stomps foot* I’m trying to come up with an RTB column. Ack. Also looking forward to diving into The Iron Hunt. *strokes copy*
by Charli July 3rd, 2008 at 7:22 pmCharli, LOL!
I’m surprised that I got mine done way ahead of time. I’m normally last minute on RTB.
The Iron Hunt is very rich writing. I haven’t finished it yet. It’s actually taking me longer to read due to its richness and style. I think you’ll really like it.
by Jordan Summers July 3rd, 2008 at 7:53 pmI’m with you on the crowds, since I had a…well, ‘crushing’ experience as a child, and avoid them like the plague.
But hope you enjoy your holiday!

Hi! Did you know that Tor are giving away the cover art to Red as a free computer wallpaper if you’re signed up to their newsletter? It looks fabulous - just the figure of Red herself on a black background. I have it proudly displayed on my laptop right now…
by Karen Mahoney July 4th, 2008 at 3:22 amI don’t like crowds either, but my kids will have a fit if I don’t take them to the county’s fireworks display. So off I go tonight *sighs*.
by Ellen F. July 4th, 2008 at 7:16 amIf our local Oakland A’s has a fireworks game, we go. They’re awesome displays without the danger… except the crowd. With having done so much work on the book so fast, at least you have some breathing room to figure out the problem.
by BernardL July 4th, 2008 at 10:46 amRaine, It’s amazing how that happens.
Thank you! I think I’ve figured out the story. All I had to do was go back and ask Red to tell me what happened.
by Jordan Summers July 4th, 2008 at 1:49 pmKaren, I actually just found out. I love Christian’s work. Have loved it for YEARS. I feel so lucky that he worked on my cover. I’m about to do the same as you did.
by Jordan Summers July 4th, 2008 at 1:51 pmEllen, It’s different when you have kids. The good thing is you have a lot of choices of places to take them. Enjoy the fireworks.
by Jordan Summers July 4th, 2008 at 1:52 pmBernard, That sounds like a great time.
I think I figured out the problem.
