Ding Dong the Book is Gone!!!

Yep, pressed send only minutes ago. The manuscript is soaring through the web as we speak to N.Y. YAY!!! The Dead World series is officially closed. Woo Hoo!!! Crimson turned out to be almost the exact word count as RED (ie approx. 90K). I’m going to spend a few days planning exactly what to do next and playing video games. :)

A couple of things, I found out some surprising news the other day. Apparently, Jozelle Dyer has quit Tor and moved to St. Louis. You can read about it here. Had I known she was going to do that, I wouldn’t have pushed the submission thing after Nationals. She did say in her blog that ALL the manuscripts she had have been passed onto Heather. So if you’ve submitted to Jozelle, don’t freak if you don’t hear anything for a while. My guess is Heather is swamped. Make that more swamped. I hope Jozelle finds much happiness in her new location.

I received news that RED has been reviewed by Publisher Weekly. I must say I was shocked and more than a little frightened, since I know PW mainly reviews literary fiction (ie not the type of books I write (grin) ). The review isn’t great, but it also doesn’t suck. *ggg* It’s actually decent and best of all, quotable. ;) You can read the full thing below:

“Red Jordan Summers. Tor, $6.99 (368p) ISBN 978-0-7653-5914-8
Summers (Off Limits) occasionally stumbles in this intense series launch, a futuristic paranormal romance set in an ecologically desolate 2160. Gina “Red” Santiago, the lone woman in the elite international tactical team commanded by the grandfather who raised her, travels off-duty to Nuria in the Republic of Arizona to investigate a woman’s mysterious, brutal death. Gina doesn’t believe in the rumors of supersoldiers, vampires and werewolves created by a secret government genetic engineering project, until she learns that almost everyone in Nuria is a werewolf and finds herself powerfully attracted to lycanthrope sheriff Morgan Hunter even as she connects others in his pack to the murder investigation. Complex and sometimes confusing world building combine with a steamy and conflicted romance between a strong heroine and a literal alpha male hero, with plenty of chemistry to fuel future volumes. (Nov.)”

My dh is going in for dental surgery tomorrow, so I won’t be around. Everyone remember to vote.

  1. Congrats on finishing, Jordan!
And a review from PW? Gawd, I’d need tranquilizers just to read it…
    (luck to dh!).

  2. Yay, congrats! And great review from PW, too. Hope your dh’s dental surgery goes well.

  3. Raine, That’s kind of where I went mentally, when I heard the news about the review. Then I braced. *ggg*

Thanks! Dh came through with flying colors. He’s currently out cold. :)

  4. Charli, Thank you! It’s a relief to have that book out the door. And yes, the PW wasn’t bad. I’ve seen better and I’ve seen a whole lot worse. *g*

Dh is groggy from being out and will probably sleep the rest of the night.

  5. I don’t read suck in any of the review… and… just what the hell is literary fiction anyway? :)

  6. Yay! on being done!!! Don’t ya love that feeling?

PW did a review on my first Hunter book, terrified me. Like yours, wasn’t great, but nothing worth writing home about either.

    Personally, I loved Red.

  7. Psst… btw, you gonna let me have books 2&3?

  8. Ah, the patented PW patronizing pat on the head better luck next time honey debutaunting review. Now you know you’ve arrived, Jordan. :)

  9. Bernard, Thanks! As for literary fiction, think Oprah’s bookclub. *ggg*

  13. Wow!!! I love the new site and am so excited you sent your book in. :) I’m so proud of you and wish I had been around more the last few months to see all the goings on here. That’s fantastic that you’ve sent it off.

Hope hubby is feeling better, mine is frantically writing a paper for class to meet his deadline.

  14. Shannon, Thank you! The site is quite a change from my old one. Yep, very happy the book is off and out of my hair.

He’s feeling much better. Just gets tired easy. Good luck to your hubby with the paper. :)

  15. Hey, that PW review seems pretty good to me. Complex and sometimes confusing world building, isn’t that a good thing? I can’t wait to read that book!

  16. Catherine,

The complex part is good, but the confusing part—not so much. *ggg*
