Red Review and Contest

Amie was nice enough to send me the Romantic Times Booklover’s Magazine review for RED. You’ll find it listed below. It’s rocking. I’m really happy with it and pleasantly surprised.

Also, I’m still taking names for this week’s contest. If you’d like to win an ARC (advanced reader copy) of RED, just mention so in the comments or go through my contact page. (The link is at the top of the page cleverly hidden under ‘contact’. ;) *g*

The world as we know it has been destroyed in this post-apocalyptic thriller. The thirst for power never dies, but gutsy heroine Gina refuses to let that stop her. Summers does a good job laying out the backstory for her new world order, illustrating the dangerous times her protagonists live in. The first-person rantings from the deranged serial killer add a frightening layer to an already gritty thriller. Very good stuff, indeed! —Jill M. Smith

Did any of you watch Criminal Minds last night? What did you think? I liked it, but I did think it was a bit of a cheat given the season finale. I also watched Bones, Supernatural and Without a Trace. Supernatural has gone in an interesting direction. Didn’t see that one coming. :shock:

  6. I found out out about this through Larissa Ione’s blog. I would so love an ARC of Red.

    She said it was dark, gritty and scary which is right up my alley.

    I watched Criminal Minds last night and I loved it. I didn’t feel cheated at all buy it. I was on the edge of my seat.

  10. Sayuri, I hadn’t either, but I did have them taped. What I found was that the first episode sets you up pretty well. You need to know who the characters are, but once that’s done, you’re right back in the story. (Even if you haven’t seen the episodes.)

    Yes, Dean is quite easy on the eyes. Heck, they both are. :twisted:

  14. Followed the links on Jeanine Frost and Larissa Ione’s sites. I would like to throw my name into the hat for a Red ARC.

    I swear I saw Red bookmarks in my store a few weeks ago. It’s distinctive cover caught my attention.

    An advantage as a bookseller: we see what’s coming up.

    A disadvantage: we’re sometimes an impatient bunch especially if we see something we’re interested in and the street date months down the line.

    Seriously, you should see the little fights we get into when someone gets their pre-ordered book before the others. It’s hilarious as the ‘I hate you’s,’ ‘Can I read that after you’re done?’ ‘Shhh… no spoilers!” and “Hurry up reading it so we can discuss” echo in the break room.

    Of course, when we find a book we like we pass these recommendations to our customers with similar tastes.

  16. Oh! About Supernatural – I did not see that coming! I think it’s pretty creative how they managed to get Dean back but I’m not so sure about the new direction of the show, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. This has always been one of my favorite shows.

  18. I followed Larissa and Shiloh Walker’s breadcrumbs, and I would like to be entered in the drawing for an ARC.

    I like both Bones and Criminal Minds (or at least as long as Mandy Patinkin was in, I don’t know about now), but I wait for the full season on DVD to do the “marathon watching” thing. The rest of the time, the tv is off :grin:

    I did like the ending of Criminal Minds, too. I thought that was very character appropriate.

    Yes, Supernatural will be interesting. I hope the skirt the subject, but I don’t know if it’ll be possible with the angel introduction. We’ll have to wait and see.

  33. The pres interrupted the first fifteen of Criminal Minds! :twisted: SO i missed part of the end, but managed to set the DVR to tape CSI: NY so I could catch part of it–hope that made sense.

    Still haven’t watched the season opener of Supernatural so no didn’t watch the second episode….and still have the season opener of Bones waiting on me too :roll:

  36. Amie, The first fifteen of Criminal Minds was showing what happened at the season finale, then the events directly following the blast. (ie them scrambling to figure out who was in the SUV)

    I love stuff that has to do with the Apocalypse, I don’t know what it is about the end of the world that facinates me! :twisted:

    The end of the world is fascinating in a horrifying kind of way. :shock:

    Angels are supposed to be frightening. They aren’t the friendly feathered folks portrayed in a lot of literature. In a lot of cases, they’re warriors who destroy as much as they save.

    I just think it’s funny the angel came to Dean.

    I would love to win another copy, but if I don’t I’ll just pre-order it from Amazon so I don’t forget to buy it when it releases (cause I’m bad about that.)

    OMG, Jordan I LOVED Criminal Minds! It was very stressful to watch,b ut so fantastic. My heart was pounding more than with any other episode I remember seeing. And I can’t wait to see how things between Derek and Hotch turn out. And am I one of the few people who wants to see Derek and Garcia become an item? Or would that mess up the dynamic? Hmm.

    I thought the interaction between Derek and Garcia was lovely. Not sure it would mess up the dynamic, since they already speak to each other differently than the other agents. I’d like to see that happen, not that the guy they paired her up with wasn’t good, but there’s just something between them. Gotta love chemistry. :)

    As for Hotch and Derek, that was a very interesting conversation they had in the end. It really went far to show characterization. I’ll definitely keep watching—as if I was going to stop. Snort. ;)

    Also…not thrilled with the Criminal Minds episode. Like you, I thought it was a bit of a cheat. Bones I’m enjoying, as usual…and SUPERNATURAL I love it!! While I never saw that angle coming, it does make sense. There’s been talk about Dean’s lack of faith and non-belief in previous seasons… and…

    SPOILER ALERT:
    I think them having Sam working with a demon (Ruby) and Dean working with an Angel is the perfect set-up for many interesting episodes to come. *rubs hands together in anticipation*

  76. Ilona, You can catch Bones on I believe its MySpace page. They repeat the episodes online the next day, so you don’t have to miss Bones at least.

    Yes, I love the cover art, too. I actually love the original artwork. It’s gritty, darker and edgy.

    I do hope that along with the new story arc in Supernatural they also put in a few free-standing episodes. I really miss them going after ‘regular’ creatures. :)

  87. I did watch Supernatural and Bones…I have not gotten to Criminal Minds yet. I am pretty interested in Supernatural…for some reason, I have never watched this show and am now thinking that I may need to buy the seasons and get caught up. Has anyone watched it from the start? Is it worth getting the earlier seasons? I am liking what I have seen so far this year.

    Well, that’s true. I think due to the nature of what is happening in the characters’ world it’s hard to find the fun. This storyline is dark and lends itself to character self-discovery, not laughs. I do hope they’re able to work in some of the old banter, but I understand why it’s currently missing.

    That said, I did think the ghost panic room was quite funny. *g*
