Amie was nice enough to send me the Romantic Times Booklover’s Magazine review for RED. You’ll find it listed below. It’s rocking. I’m really happy with it and pleasantly surprised.
Also, I’m still taking names for this week’s contest. If you’d like to win an ARC (advanced reader copy) of RED, just mention so in the comments or go through my contact page. (The link is at the top of the page cleverly hidden under ‘contact’.

The world as we know it has been destroyed in this post-apocalyptic thriller. The thirst for power never dies, but gutsy heroine Gina refuses to let that stop her. Summers does a good job laying out the backstory for her new world order, illustrating the dangerous times her protagonists live in. The first-person rantings from the deranged serial killer add a frightening layer to an already gritty thriller. Very good stuff, indeed! —Jill M. Smith
Did any of you watch Criminal Minds last night? What did you think? I liked it, but I did think it was a bit of a cheat given the season finale. I also watched Bones, Supernatural and Without a Trace. Supernatural has gone in an interesting direction. Didn’t see that one coming.

I watched Criminal Minds and Bones… loved Criminal Minds… and I know it was a cheat, but I’m happy about it
Now, I did like the new information about Zach… wonder how that’s going to play out later on.
by Ali September 25th, 2008 at 3:14 pmExcellent review!
by BernardL September 25th, 2008 at 3:42 pmI totally missed “Criminal Minds” sob! I thought yesterday was Tuesday.
Enter me in the contest, please! I’d love to read this one!
by TarotByArwen September 25th, 2008 at 3:52 pmI haven’t watched the last three episodes of last season of Supernatural yet!
I need to get caught up!
Ahhh, Dean.
by Sayuri September 25th, 2008 at 3:57 pmI don’t watch Criminal Minds and here in Finland we are seeing the earlier episodes, anyway. Well, in any case, I prefer Numb3rs and Bones.
by Minna September 25th, 2008 at 4:03 pmEnter me in the contest, please!
I found out out about this through Larissa Ione’s blog. I would so love an ARC of Red.
She said it was dark, gritty and scary which is right up my alley.
I watched Criminal Minds last night and I loved it. I didn’t feel cheated at all buy it. I was on the edge of my seat.
by Greta September 25th, 2008 at 4:25 pmAli, You know, I was wondering the same thing about Zach. I was surprised to see him back and also surprised about the revelations. I’m not sure how they’re going to work it, but it sure seems like they’re headed in that direction.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 4:55 pmThanks Bernard!
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 4:55 pmArwen, I hate when I lose track of days. I did that on Tuesday. Somehow thought it was Wednesday. Sigh. I do have everything scheduled to tape, so it takes care of my absentmindedness. *g*
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 4:56 pmSayuri, I hadn’t either, but I did have them taped. What I found was that the first episode sets you up pretty well. You need to know who the characters are, but once that’s done, you’re right back in the story. (Even if you haven’t seen the episodes.)
Yes, Dean is quite easy on the eyes. Heck, they both are.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 4:59 pmMinna, I like Bones and Numbers. It’ll be interesting to see the character shuffle for Numbers now that the girl has departed.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 4:59 pmGreta, Thanks for letting me know. I LOVE Larissa’s series. Us gritty girls have to stick together.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 5:00 pm[...] Wanna get an ARC? Go see Jordan [...]
by **RED Alert** « Trivial Pursuits September 25th, 2008 at 5:45 pmFollowed the links on Jeanine Frost and Larissa Ione’s sites. I would like to throw my name into the hat for a Red ARC.
I swear I saw Red bookmarks in my store a few weeks ago. It’s distinctive cover caught my attention.
An advantage as a bookseller: we see what’s coming up.
A disadvantage: we’re sometimes an impatient bunch especially if we see something we’re interested in and the street date months down the line.
Seriously, you should see the little fights we get into when someone gets their pre-ordered book before the others. It’s hilarious as the ‘I hate you’s,’ ‘Can I read that after you’re done?’ ‘Shhh… no spoilers!” and “Hurry up reading it so we can discuss” echo in the break room.
Of course, when we find a book we like we pass these recommendations to our customers with similar tastes.
by Cassie September 25th, 2008 at 6:27 pmCongrats on the review, Jordan!
I did watched Criminal Minds last night and it felt a little anticlimatic considering how it ended last season but I admit, the ending with Morgan was good!
by Wendy September 25th, 2008 at 6:53 pmOh! About Supernatural – I did not see that coming! I think it’s pretty creative how they managed to get Dean back but I’m not so sure about the new direction of the show, I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. This has always been one of my favorite shows.
by Wendy September 25th, 2008 at 6:54 pmMmm….Bones….that brings to me two very hot men – David Boreanaz and Bones (from Frost’s novels). I need to catch up on last season’s Bones.
Oh Oh! I saw Jeaniene Frost’s review of this and it sounds so good.
by Jackie M (Literary Escapism) September 25th, 2008 at 7:56 pmI followed Larissa and Shiloh Walker’s breadcrumbs, and I would like to be entered in the drawing for an ARC.
I like both Bones and Criminal Minds (or at least as long as Mandy Patinkin was in, I don’t know about now), but I wait for the full season on DVD to do the “marathon watching” thing. The rest of the time, the tv is off
by azteclady September 25th, 2008 at 8:38 pmI, too, was forwarded here by Jeaniene’s blog, but I think I’ll be staying a bit. You write Blazes AND UF? I write Blazes (unpubbed as yet) and read UF almost exclusively. You may be my new best friend.
And oh, yeah, I’d LOVE an ARC of Red. It sounds fabulous!
by Carolynn September 25th, 2008 at 8:40 pmCassie, You probably did see bookmarks. Claire Delacroix and I mailed out a ton of them. I also sent out a wave of ARC’s to a ton of booksellers.
I’m sure it is a fight. *ggg* I’d be like that with certain authors no doubt about it.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 9:38 pmWendy, Thank you!
I did like the ending of Criminal Minds, too. I thought that was very character appropriate.
Yes, Supernatural will be interesting. I hope the skirt the subject, but I don’t know if it’ll be possible with the angel introduction. We’ll have to wait and see.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 9:40 pmJackie, Bones (Jeaniene’s character) is mine. Step away slowly. *ggg*
Thanks!
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 9:42 pmAztec Lady, Yep, Criminal Minds has changed since Mandy’s departure. I do wish they would’ve gotten someone different in to replace him. It still seems a little awkward.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 9:43 pmCarolynn, LOL! Yes, I’ve come to UF via the long route. Most people who’ve read my old work are a little surprised by this change in direction. I admit I didn’t see it coming. (wg) Good luck to you with your Blazes.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 9:45 pmHeard great things about your work so putting my name in for an ARC so I can fall in love (as I’m assured will happen).
Thanks for the contest.
by Sandy (strlady) September 25th, 2008 at 9:45 pm~S
Sandy, Thank you.
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 9:47 pmCongrats on a rockin’ review! Here’s to RED flying off shelves.
by Charli September 25th, 2008 at 9:50 pmCharli, Thank you!
Here’s hoping. *g*
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 9:55 pmHi Jordan, I have already sent you a message through your contact section. But I just wanted to say congrats on the review from RT.
by Audrey M. September 25th, 2008 at 10:16 pmThanks Audrey!
by Jordan Summers September 25th, 2008 at 10:25 pmGreat review. Now I so want a copy.
by Nadia September 25th, 2008 at 11:38 pmHi! I love the review. I would love a copy.
by Rachelm September 26th, 2008 at 6:27 amThe pres interrupted the first fifteen of Criminal Minds!
SO i missed part of the end, but managed to set the DVR to tape CSI: NY so I could catch part of it–hope that made sense.
Still haven’t watched the season opener of Supernatural so no didn’t watch the second episode….and still have the season opener of Bones waiting on me too
by Amie September 26th, 2008 at 7:24 amDIE FOOTBALL!
Thanks Nadia!
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 10:27 amRachelm, Thank you.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 10:27 amAmie, The first fifteen of Criminal Minds was showing what happened at the season finale, then the events directly following the blast. (ie them scrambling to figure out who was in the SUV)
You are way behind. *ggg*
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 10:29 amShiloh sent me over, and I would love to read Red.
by Cathy M September 26th, 2008 at 12:34 pmDid you watch Supernatural last night?! It was good!
I love stuff that has to do with the Apocalypse, I don’t know what it is about the end of the world that facinates me!
And you know, the angel looks kinda evil in an odd sort of way, which is even better!
by Wendy September 26th, 2008 at 12:52 pmJust had to stop by and tell everyone that they’ll LOVE this book!!!!
I can’t wait until it comes out in bookstores — I want my final copy! *g*
by Larissa Ione September 26th, 2008 at 1:01 pmWendy, I haven’t watched it yet, but I did tape it. I’m going to watch it today.
The end of the world is fascinating in a horrifying kind of way.
Angels are supposed to be frightening. They aren’t the friendly feathered folks portrayed in a lot of literature. In a lot of cases, they’re warriors who destroy as much as they save.
I just think it’s funny the angel came to Dean.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 1:07 pmThanks Larissa!
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 1:08 pmI had a copy of RED. It was even autographed, but to tell you how much I love Joy at Joyfully Reviewed, I sent it to her.
I would love to win another copy, but if I don’t I’ll just pre-order it from Amazon so I don’t forget to buy it when it releases (cause I’m bad about that.)
OMG, Jordan I LOVED Criminal Minds! It was very stressful to watch,b ut so fantastic. My heart was pounding more than with any other episode I remember seeing. And I can’t wait to see how things between Derek and Hotch turn out. And am I one of the few people who wants to see Derek and Garcia become an item? Or would that mess up the dynamic? Hmm.
by Naughty Nikki Duncan September 26th, 2008 at 1:13 pmNikki, Joy should’ve let me know she wanted one. You wouldn’t have had to give up your copy.
I thought the interaction between Derek and Garcia was lovely. Not sure it would mess up the dynamic, since they already speak to each other differently than the other agents. I’d like to see that happen, not that the guy they paired her up with wasn’t good, but there’s just something between them. Gotta love chemistry.
As for Hotch and Derek, that was a very interesting conversation they had in the end. It really went far to show characterization. I’ll definitely keep watching—as if I was going to stop. Snort.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 1:17 pmWell, Joy didn’t ask for it. She just wanted your autograph, which I got for her in tha book. But I thought since she was fan girlish talking about you that she’d enjoy an ARC. And come on, she’s Joy. She’s worth the sacrifice.
by Naughty Nikki Duncan September 26th, 2008 at 1:29 pmI would love to win an ARC of Red
by Larena Wirum September 26th, 2008 at 1:47 pmI would love to win an ARC of Red. The book sounds fabulous. And yes I’m a big fan of Criminal Minds. I predicted everything on the show though. No surprises I didn’t think.
by Sherry September 26th, 2008 at 1:55 pmYeah, it’s kinda ironic that they chose Dean, you’d think they would have gone for Sam. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dean (hehe) but he’s not really the believing in angels and God sort of guy.
by Wendy September 26th, 2008 at 2:09 pmNikki, That’s very kind of you.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 2:21 pmSherry, I thought for sure they were going to lose a cast member. I didn’t want them to, but I was a little disappointed they didn’t go for it.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 2:22 pmWendy, Yes, it is ironic. At least the angel proved he wasn’t exactly warm and fuzzy this episode.
Should be interesting, since it’s obvious this season will be their fight to stop Lilith from breaking all the seals.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 2:24 pmLarissa sent me
I’d love to win a copy.
by catslady September 26th, 2008 at 4:24 pmHe’s definitely not warm and fuzzy, but kinda hot, lol.
What I’m looking forward to is to see if Ruby somehow meets the angel and what would happen – yeah he’d probably kill her.. but maybe not.
by Wendy September 26th, 2008 at 5:29 pmWendy, I think it would be more interesting if he ’saved’ her.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 5:38 pmWendy, When he asked Dean for respect, I was actually afraid for poor Dean. It’s the first time Dean looked a little worried. *g* Definitely hot in a threatening kind of way.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 5:39 pmI like Bones too. Love it, and was very interested in the Zach thing. I look forward to seeing what they do with that.
by Naughty Nikki Duncan September 26th, 2008 at 5:57 pmNikki, Yep, makes me wonder if they’re bringing him back. Poor Hodges he’s having a rough go of it.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 6:00 pmI feel for Hodges too. One of the things I love most about Criminal Minds, Bones, and Supernatural is how intelligently written they are.
by Naughty Nikki Duncan September 26th, 2008 at 6:03 pmNikki, Yep, those shows and NCIS (and House) have fantastic writing.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 6:25 pmI saw this link on Jeanine Frost’s site and would love to enter to win an arc. Red sounds like it will be great!
by Jaime W September 26th, 2008 at 6:28 pmOh, we love NCIS too! It’s so great to hear that other people watch these shows. No one I know locally watches this stuff. Dorks.
by Naughty Nikki Duncan September 26th, 2008 at 6:46 pmOoooh, what if they start liking each other! OMG
Oh, that would be AWESOME.
I love House! It’s funny because at first I wasn’t interested in watching the show then I caught a rerun and have been a fan ever since.
by Wendy September 26th, 2008 at 6:57 pmNikki, That’s so weird. It’s such a good show.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 7:04 pmWendy, Yes, it would.
I love Hugh Laurie. Have loved him since his Jeeves and Wooster days and Blackadder (sp).
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 7:05 pmNow, I can’t stop thinking about the angel and Ruby *grin*
Yeah, Laurie’s pretty hot, too!
by Wendy September 26th, 2008 at 7:28 pmWell, it could never be a love story, but it could be intense. *g*
Yes, Hugh is charming.
by Jordan Summers September 26th, 2008 at 8:30 pmYou were recommended to me by Larissa also. I’m happy to follow her lead, so I can’t wait to read your book Red. Looking forward to it and I’d love to be entered for a chance at the ARC. Thank you!
by Tiffany September 26th, 2008 at 9:44 pmJust wanted to congratulate you on the great review, Jordan.
by raine September 27th, 2008 at 12:16 amCongratulations!
What a great review, Jordan! I’m so happy for you!
Also…not thrilled with the Criminal Minds episode. Like you, I thought it was a bit of a cheat. Bones I’m enjoying, as usual…and SUPERNATURAL I love it!! While I never saw that angle coming, it does make sense. There’s been talk about Dean’s lack of faith and non-belief in previous seasons… and…
SPOILER ALERT:
by Sasha September 27th, 2008 at 2:53 amI think them having Sam working with a demon (Ruby) and Dean working with an Angel is the perfect set-up for many interesting episodes to come. *rubs hands together in anticipation*
Ever since Sky stopped letting Virgin show those shows I have been unable to view them – darn Sky I really loved watching Bones and Criminal Minds.
by Ilona September 27th, 2008 at 4:32 amOops, forgot to say add my name to the hat for that wonderful looking book Red
by Ilona September 27th, 2008 at 4:34 amI want it just for the great cover art *kidding* the story sounds great too
Congrats on a kickass review, Jordan!
by Jaq September 27th, 2008 at 9:57 amI love Supernatural, I have friends who come over every Thursday night and we all watch it together. Love the Winchester boys!
by Teresa W. September 27th, 2008 at 10:16 amCongrats on the awesome review, Jordan. I haven’t seen Criminal Minds yet, I tend not to watch regular tv, just cable. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives (I think I need to put this in a book somewhere- or I’m afraid I’ll actually open this diner I keep planning
).
by Ann September 27th, 2008 at 10:35 amHope you’re having a great weekend.
Thanks Raine.
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 12:14 pmThanks Sasha!
Yes, it does change the roles of the characters by switching things up between Dean and Sam. It should make for quite a good time.
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 12:15 pmIlona, You can catch Bones on I believe its MySpace page. They repeat the episodes online the next day, so you don’t have to miss Bones at least.
Yes, I love the cover art, too. I actually love the original artwork. It’s gritty, darker and edgy.
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 12:17 pmThanks Jaq!
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 12:18 pmTeresa, That’s cool. I used to have a friend do the same thing when X-Files was on.
I do hope that along with the new story arc in Supernatural they also put in a few free-standing episodes. I really miss them going after ‘regular’ creatures.
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 12:19 pmAnn, Thank you! I watch a lot of cable, too. I’ve heard of that show, but I haven’t seen it. I need to stay away from the Food Network. *ggg*
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 12:21 pmI’m kind of trying to watch a lot of the new shows, but so far nothing has really floored me.
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 12:22 pmCount me in on the Red ARC contest!!!
Happy Weekend everyone!
by Jessica Kennedy September 27th, 2008 at 1:49 pmThanks Jessica!
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 2:39 pmHow about Fringe – has anyone watched the new show?
by Wendy September 27th, 2008 at 6:06 pmWendy, Fringe is interesting. I’m still waiting to see how that one unfolds. I wish we’d kept HBO so I could watch True Blood. I’m going to download copies from the Apple store.
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 7:52 pmJordan, I’ve been watching it and I think it’s pretty good, it’s certainly an interesting concept.
I’ve been watching the True Blood episodes online, so far I’m liking it.
by Wendy September 27th, 2008 at 8:37 pmWendy, I think Fringe has definite possibilities. I’ll keep watching.
I’ve liked True Blood thus far, but I pretty much enjoy vampire shows. *g*
by Jordan Summers September 27th, 2008 at 11:10 pmI did watch Supernatural and Bones…I have not gotten to Criminal Minds yet. I am pretty interested in Supernatural…for some reason, I have never watched this show and am now thinking that I may need to buy the seasons and get caught up. Has anyone watched it from the start? Is it worth getting the earlier seasons? I am liking what I have seen so far this year.
Red sounds really good.
by Lori T September 28th, 2008 at 2:32 pmLori, The first couple of years of Supernatural were fantastic and actually quite scary. At least some of the episodes were really scary. I’d highly recommend watching them.
by Jordan Summers September 28th, 2008 at 7:19 pm[...] Summers is having a contest for an ARC of her new novel, Red, which comes out Nov. [...]
by Skin Trade & Chance Winner | Literary Escapism September 28th, 2008 at 8:08 pmyep! me and my kids been wonderign who was the one who got blew up
by tami blackroze37 September 29th, 2008 at 2:34 pmand happy to say not morrgan
though on supernatural was a little disappointed
by tami blackroze37 September 29th, 2008 at 2:35 pmTami, Yep, I wondered about that, too. I did think they did a bit of a cheat with it, but it was still a good episode.
I actually liked Supernatural. Thought it was an interesting shift of direction, although I do hope they do a few more stand-alone episodes, too.
by Jordan Summers September 29th, 2008 at 4:05 pmLOL my fella kept tring to “fix” the tv, cause of the black and white
well IF they have funm with it, sam and dean just has this look and smirk to their faces, as they look at each other, and plus they dont seem to be having fun lik ethey usually do, which not been there for the 2 new eps
by tami blackroze37 September 30th, 2008 at 12:38 amTami, LOL! That’s funny.
Well, that’s true. I think due to the nature of what is happening in the characters’ world it’s hard to find the fun. This storyline is dark and lends itself to character self-discovery, not laughs. I do hope they’re able to work in some of the old banter, but I understand why it’s currently missing.
That said, I did think the ghost panic room was quite funny. *g*
by Jordan Summers September 30th, 2008 at 1:37 pmLOL true! forgot the ghost panic room
by tami blackroze37 October 3rd, 2008 at 1:38 pmTami, I thought that was hilarious. A ghost panic room. *ggg*
by Jordan Summers October 3rd, 2008 at 3:48 pmok last thurs night , they got back to themselves ! yes!!!!!!!! i didnt get to wtch it til yesterday on the dvr
by tami blackroze37 October 8th, 2008 at 1:16 amBUT YAY the boys are backin town!
Tami, I haven’t watched it yet, but that’s good to hear. Hopefully they’ll do a few more episodes like that before they return to the major storyline.
by Jordan Summers October 8th, 2008 at 10:49 am
