Contests, Television and Travel

It’s been an interesting few months. I’m realizing that in order to reach the next level of writing I may have to go back to ‘school’ so to speak. That may ultimately mean taking a break while I learn to write new things–and old things better. Right now I’m still in the thinking stage.

Loved NCIS last night. Still think Gibbs suspects. Can’t wait to see how it plays out over the season. Also, really looking forward to Criminal Minds tonight to see what happened.

We’ve booked the first leg of our trip, so we’re definitely headed to the UK and Germany for almost a month. I’m really looking forward to going over. It’s been WAY too long. (ie four years, since our last trip) I can’t believe we’ve let that much time pass. Cannot do that again. No wonder we have such itchy feet.

Now for the contest. I’m giving away two advanced reader copies (ie uncorrected proofs, so no complaining about typos and editing issues *g*) of RED. I will be giving away two copies each week for the next few weeks leading up to RED’s release. If you’d like a chance to win, either enter your name in my contact page (can’t miss the button at the top of the page) or leave a comment letting me know. Names do not carry over from week to week, so if you don’t win on Monday you’ll just have to re-enter. Good Luck!

  1. Hmm. I’m a great believer in learning by doing, but sometimes maybe it helps to break the pieces down. I like experimental writing to try out new things, and short fiction is great for that. Poetry is great for words and images. I think ultimately the next level comes from something other than technique, but how to get there, that’s the great individual challenge. 😉

  2. Cool J! I love Germany. I was there so long ago, but it has left such a lasting impression on me, that I long to go again and stay for a while.

Hanging with my cousins in Munich and Koln was way cool. I just loved the whole feel and mood of the place. Like I’d come home.

When are you guys planning to go?

Oh, don’t enter me in the contest…I plan on being the first to buy that book here in Canada, I’ll push people out of the damn way!

  3. NCIS was really good. I hope ‘Ducky’s’ assistant has to shoot her. 🙂

  4. Charli, Very well said. I also learn by doing, but I really like to know the rules before I jump in there.

  5. Vivi, My sister and brother lived there for a while…thanks to military affiliations. They both loved it, especially my sister. She loved the nature aspect. My niece was born there. And of course, my brother-in-law is from there. I’ve never been, but I am looking forward to the markets. We’re going over the holidays.

    Thank you! 🙂

  6. Bernard, That would be an interesting way to wrap that storyline up. I thought it was interesting that he said he was being used. Makes that line seem a little different given the events. 🙂

  7. Please enter me into the contest.

  8. Hi, Jordan! Please enter me in the contest.

  9. Never been to Germany but loved the UK when I was there for a semester abroad. History is everywhere and woven into everyday life. It almost does not matter where you travel as there will be something interesting to see or do. Please enter me in the contest. Thanks.

  10. Gibbs suspects. He has to. And Palmer does too if he’d stop and think about it which won’t happen until late in the season.

Please enter me in the contest.

    Thanks

  11. Lindsey, I imagine that a semester would’ve been nice in the UK. I looked at going to the Uni in Edinburgh. They had some wonderful courses. Nope, it doesn’t matter. It’s always nice in some fashion. 🙂

  12. Signy, I agree. I can’t imagine much getting past Gibbs for long. As for Palmer, I think you’re right.

  13. Oh, I think Gibbs definitely suspects. He got that look in his eye at the end of the episode. 😉 “the itch”. Feel bad for Palmer though, though like Signy, I think he may realize more than he thinks.

And I can’t wait for Tony to rejoin the A Team! Gaaah, please let it happen next episode.

Sorry I’m babbling but it’s nice to find another writer who likes NCIS. (Least I haven’t seen many others who’ve blogged about it.)

Oh oh! Enter me in the contest, please? I saw your book advertised awhile back and I adore the fairytale behind it. 😀

  14. Soleil, Yeah, I thought I saw that look, too. *ggg* I think we’ll see Tony back with the team on the next episode. I LOVE NCIS. I think it’s one of the best shows on television.

    Thank you. 🙂
