By Jove I Think She’s Got It!

I know some of you are hoping that I stop talking about my UF YA. Sorry, it won’t be today. *ggg* Last night I FINALLY got the opening of the book. It took a different starting point and a change of point of view (from third person to first), but it finally worked. YAY!!!

You have no idea what a relief it is to have the opening chapter of the book finished. It’s taken so long to get it right. Of course, once I did, the opening flowed. The weird thing is I’ve been able to feed in almost all of my original openings into the manuscript. I guess my brain was just having trouble separating scenes. Today I plan to write a rough chapter two. Hopefully it won’t take as long. As least I know how it opens. 😉

I finished reading Dying Bites by D.D. Barant. The world building was good and the secondary characters were interesting, but I don’t think I’ll be picking up the next book in the series. It just wasn’t for me.

Haven’t heard any rumblings online about RWA, so I guess the drama was minimal. Other than that, I’m sure nothing has changed. 🙄

  1. I heard a little drama..I’ve been following on twitter, some crap happened at the AGM about epublishing, of course.

yeah, on getting your opening right!!

I’ve been reading Street Magic by Caitlin Kittredge and its ROCKS, very edgy UF reminds a bit of Simon Green’s Nightside, I recommend it.

  2. Hurrah for your UF YA! And hey, if you can’t talk about your work on your blog, where can you talk about it?

Reading: I’m catching up on Shadow Unit. Just finished Joe Hill’s Heart-Shaped Box and Bujold’s Horizon (Sharing Knife #4). All good.

  3. Vivi, I haven’t heard anything, but then again I don’t have a Twitter, Facebook, or a MySpace account. *g* I’m sure it was interesting at that meeting.

Thanks! I just finished a rough chapter two, so things are moving along.

I haven’t read Caitlin. I’ll have to check it out because I REALLY love Simon Green’s Nightside.

  4. Charli, Good point. I’m just worried about boring everyone. *ggg*

I have Heart-Shaped Box in my TBR piles, but first I’m going to finish the other books I’d started to read.

  5. So many books so little time 😆

Yay on getting the first chapter knocked out!

  6. Sherri, I have so many books in my TBR pile. It’s now a matter of figuring out what I am in the mood for. *g*

Thanks! I’m starting chapter four today. YAY!

  7. I’m in the same boat Jordan!

Plus I’m trying to get through all the Outlander series (for Echo in Sept.) so that I can re-read the Fever series the week leading up to the release of Dreamfever (Aug. 18)…no stinkin’ way I’m waiting to start Dream after finishing Fae a second time!!

  8. Sherri, I’ve been holding off on reading Faefever until Dreamfever is released. I’ve heard Faefever is a doozy, so I’m going to wait until I have the other book in my hot little hands. *g*

  9. Nothing wrong with being enthusiastic with a new novel opening – it’s interesting how the POV change made everything flow.

  10. Bernard, It is interesting how it opened the book up for me. I wouldn’t have thought it would make that big of a deal, but it did. I’m glad I gave it a try.
