Iron Man 2

Today we went to see Iron Man 2 after dh got off work. Now I have to admit after seeing the first movie I was really looking forward to this film…then I read the reviews and my enthusiasm began to wane. The reviewers talked about the film being ‘too pleased with itself’ and some sites implied that the film didn’t care about ‘entertaining the movie goer’. This really worried me, since we’ve all seen follow up movies that don’t live up to their previous film.

Now that I’ve seen Iron Man 2, I’m not sure what movie they’re talking about. Tony Stark is still way over the top, but there are reasons for his outlandish behavior. He’s not just being a dick and when he is, he’s still pretty funny. I don’t want to give too much away, but I found the changes he goes through convincing for the character. Mickey’s character could’ve used a little bit more depth, but he pulled off the grunting, psycho, slim-ball well enough. I thought Scarlet had one of the best fight scenes since Jessica Biehl took on vampires in Blade Trinity. In fact, her fight scene was one of the best I’ve seen in a movie lately–period. I like Don (the replacement for Terrence Howard), but I actually think Terrance would’ve been more convincing in the role of friend given the last movie. Terrence being in the part would’ve added depth to a few of the scenes that called for a break in friendship. (They would’ve been more emotional and thus more convincing.) Gwen and Robert were fabulous. Sam Rockwell was entertaining, but it felt like he was playing the same role he played in the Charlie Angels movie. It’s disappointing, considering how good he was in Moon. I wish Olivia Munn’s part hadn’t been cut to nothing. I’m sure she would’ve done a great job bantering with Robert/Stark.

All and all, I thought the film was a lot of fun. We definitely plan to see it again. If you liked the first one, then you should enjoy this one. It’s one more layer to the bigger story. Rock on Iron Man. 🙂

  1. I don’t think I have anything to add to that without venturing into the land of spoiler-dom. Except, well, wasn’t it cool to see the shield? (he used it to prop something up, it went by kind of fast)

  2. Yours is the first positive review I’ve read on Ironman 2. The reviews have been brutal.

  3. I can’t wait to see it, I’m not reading reviews. Well, except for yours, but you and I are pretty well matched in all things comic book/action.

  4. Charli, Yeah, I laughed hard at the shield scene.

  5. Bernard, I honestly went into the movie expecting it to suck eggs because of the reviews, but I REALLY enjoyed it. It was a fun movie.

  6. V, You’re going to like it. I have no doubt. 🙂

  7. I totally LOVED IT. I have to say I enjoyed it more than the first one.

RDJ just gets better and better every time I see him on the screen. I’ve seen Sherlock Holmes like 3 times because of him and Jude Law didn’t hurt either. 🙂

I predict I’ll see this at least one more time in the theatres.

  8. Vivi, I knew you were going to love it. We just went to see it again the other day. It’s just as good the second time around. 🙂
