NaNo Ends, But I Do Not

I finished up my NaNo month with a little over 33K. Not where I wanted to be, but at least it’s progress. I’m still on schedule to have a rough draft finished by the end of this month. Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter. I will continue to write until the book is finished. The great thing about NaNo was it gave the momentum to get started again. It feels good to be back to writing steadily again.  I was bad and got out of the habit, proving once more that I cannot take extended breaks. It’s far too difficult to get started again.

One thing I absolutely MUST get under control is time management. I have so much to do and I doubt things slow down in the New Year. The only way I’ll get everything done is by putting a schedule together.  Did you learn anything from doing NaNo this year? Did you learn anything about your own personal goals?

I will do a big write up about my Screenwriter’s Weekend. Hopefully I’ll have tons of notes to share. 🙂

  1. I’ve recently put time limits on my projects during the day.

I am like working on 5-6 projects so in a day, if I have only 4 hrs to work, I will put strict times on them.

Working on the priority project first.

For example, I’ll work 2 hrs on my Nocturne, and then split up the other 2 hrs between the iother things. It really has forced my brain to work when I want it to.

  2. Wow, that’s really good to know, V. I expected it to be a fight–at least in the beginning. I’m hoping it gets easier once I’m in the flow of the schedule.

  3. 33K is a very good back to work total. Extended breaks from writing is a killer. It would seem as if the return would be easy and fresh but such is not the case… at least not for me. 🙂

  4. Bernard, It’s definitely not he case for me either. I added more from the old story, so I’m up past 40K now. I see a distant light at the end of the tunnel. 😉

  5. Time management is an ongoing challenge. Working on that myself, I really need to maximize the next few months. Yay for 40K and onward!

  6. Charli,
You and me both. The next few months are crucial. :-/
