Locked and Loaded

I’ve finished uploading Atlantean’s Quest Book Two: Exodus. Without any hiccups, it should be available in a day or two. Heat of the Night is already up and selling, so YAY! (I am working on getting the HEAT OF THE NIGHT page up.)

In another news, I’m officially down 13.5 pounds. I’m shooting for 15 by the end of the month. I still have an incredibly long way to go, but I’m getting there. Slow and steady wins the race…and all that.

As I said yesterday, the car is back and appears to be running. Hopefully it’ll make it longer than a few months this time. *ggg

I am looking forward to starting my new project. Tomorrow I’m writing up a rough synopsis. I plan to write this book using Scrivener. Hopefully it’ll work out because I’d really like to use less paper. My desk nearly collapsed under the load from the last book. I also think it would be nice to have ALL my notes in one place as opposed to scattered to the far reaches of the planet. Okay, maybe not planet, but believe me they are scattered everywhere when I write. I really don’t like that, especially when I’m looking for something specific. Once I finish this title, I am going to have to decide if I’m going to query agents again. I’ve been really torn about the whole ‘agent’ situation, especially since so many seem to be delving into the publishing business (ie releasing their authors’ books as ebooks). I understand that people are just trying to stay in business, but I consider that a major conflict of interest. I worry that by the time I have all the material together that I want to have together that the industry will have shifted completely over to this model. If that happens, I’ll have to stay indie. I know I’m not the only author out there concerned. The alternative is submitting before I’m ready and to be honest, that’s never really worked out for me. This time I’m determined to have my ducks in a row before I dive into the water.

If you’re an author, what are your publishing concerns? Do you have any? If you’re not worried, why?

New Cover & The Return of the Car Part 2

I finally got the car back tonight. Thanks to Bernard (if you’re in the Bay area you really should visit his garage), I found out that there were problems with the fuel pumps on 2000 to 2002 Focus’. It’s not a problem with ALL Ford Focus’, but some of them are having fuel pump problems. Yes, I was one of the lucky ones. Yay me! 🙁 Anyway, they finally did the correct replacement and I’m officially back in business. Well, not so sure about business, but at least my car is running. Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed it keeps doing so. I really don’t want to have to replace a car that only has 40K in miles on it.

On a different note, I’ve just finished formatting HEAT OF THE NIGHT. It should be available within a couple of days…if I can make the Smashwords meat grinder happy. Until then, here is a sneak peek at the cover:

Contests and Letters

First off, Charlene Teglia is running a contest on Twitter. You can win prizes if you can guess the date I’ll get my car back from Ford. LOL! I didn’t realize she was going to do this, but I have to admit it’s VERY funny.

Bernard, thank you so much for the info. Seriously appreciate it. Did you get a copy of Blood Lite 2? If not, drop me an email and I’ll mail you one.

The final thing I wanted to say is that I’ve received two emails over the last few days asking me specifically about Tears of Amun and the Dead World series. Jennifer K. and Susan B., I tried to write you back, but both of your addresses blocked me. 🙁 So I’m going to answer your questions publicly. Jennifer, I plan to put Tears of Amun out in ebook form next month (ie sometime in June). Susan, there won’t be anymore Dead World single titles, but I do plan to write a couple of prequel/sequels involving secondary characters, which will also be released via ebook. These probably won’t be written until the Fall, since I’m currently working on releasing two more backlist titles and I’m starting a new UF romance series. Once I’m done with that, I have to edit a YA I wrote last year. Sorry for having to take this public, but I didn’t want you guys to think that I was ignoring you.

I am still officially car-less. No idea what country Ford had to fly my fuel pump in from, but it’s obviously far, FAR away.

Figured out the storyline for my UF romance. Really excited. It’s got a lot going on, but now have a solid foundation to build the series. I’m going to write the first one, then put together a series plan for the rest of the books. If I can’t sell it to a traditional publisher, then I will release it myself. I like the idea that much. 🙂

Just got back from Thor. Thought it was fun enough. The performances were solid. Not sure why it’s in 3D other than so the studios can charge more for it. Would’ve really liked more characterization. It would’ve turned a fun story into a good one. Didn’t buy the romance at all and I thought the character arc was pretty non-existent. That said, it’s still worth going to see. Chris makes a good Thor. There is also a snippet after the credits that plays into the larger Avengers story that’s coming soon.

I plan to go see Priest next, but I’m not holding out a lot of hope that it’s going to be good. Would love to be proven wrong.

Brenda Novak Auction

Just like a couple of years ago, I am taking part in Brenda Novak’s Auction to benefit diabetes research. There are a lot of amazing things being offered this year. I think I may bid on a few myself. I am offering a critique on your first twenty-five pages. (I will try not to make you cry.) If you’re interested, you can go HERE and bid. It’s for a good cause.

Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Car Gone…

Yep, as you might guess from the headline, I’ve been carless for the past couple of days. Well, actually, I rented a car while Ford ‘works’ on mine. Of course, I haven’t heard from them since yesterday, at which point they told me they were going to hook it up to a diagnostic machine. Not a peep since. Always a good sign. I have to return my rental tomorrow morning. I’ll give them a call when I get back. Hopefully they’ll know something by then.

Managed to finish my edits on Exodus. I’m still bloody from the ordeal. Goodness. I don’t want to go through that again.

Now it’s time to work on a new project or two. A friend suggested researching for a few days to ‘discover’ the story. I’m going to give it a try, starting tomorrow. We’ll see what I can find.

Lots going on in the news this week. When mom said Bin Laden was dead, I thought she was kidding. Turns out she wasn’t. Should make for fun times at the airports.

Went to see Dylan Dog and Sourcecode the other day. Dylan Dog was a pretty bad monster movie. Sadly, I think I’ll end up liking it. *ggg Sourcecode was good. Good story. Well acted. Interesting premise. Certainly worth a watch. Just got back from seeing Fast and Furious. This is the first one of this franchise that I’ve watched, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but the movie was fun enough. Lots of booms, pows, and revving engines. 🙂 Have ticket for Thor on Friday. Really hope it’s good.
