Happy Fourth

Today is the fourth of July. Independence Day in the states. Rain decided to sweep through the area. It’s cooled things off considerably–thank goodness. I know it’s only a short reprieve from the heat, but I’ll take it. 🙂 We don’t have any plans, since it’s normally too hot to go anywhere to watch fireworks. Luckily, you can see a few fireworks’ displays from our house. Makes it very convenient.

Finished reading ‘Once Burned’ by Jeaniene Frost and ‘Duncan’ by D.B. Reynolds. Loved them both!!! I cannot wait for the follow up in both series. Now they’ve got me craving more gritty vampire romances. (The reason I love these two particular authors is because they write with an urban fantasy bent. Their heroes aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty and they don’t baby the heroines. Oh, they might try for a second, but it’s quickly put aside. Death is common because in their world (and in the real world) there are dangerous people. Things and relationships are complicated. They don’t just meet their future mate and everything runs smoothly. You know, kind of like real life.) D.B. Reynolds’ next book doesn’t release until October and Jeaniene’s next book in this series doesn’t come out until March. So long to wait. Sniffle. Hence the reason I need to find another gritty vampire romance/urban fantasy to tide me over. Any suggestions?

I’m writing another scene for Phantom Warriors: Riot today. Got to get my word count in, even if it’s a holiday. I’ve also decided to post more of my Manga drawings. I still cannot get the hang of drawing hair. Much work needed in that area…among others. The first time my niece saw my artwork she said that she could do so much better. Did I mention that she was twelve at the time? *ggg Funny thing is, I have no doubt that she’s telling the truth. I never claimed to be an artist. Quite the opposite actually, but I am enjoying the process of learning how to draw. So without further ado…

Complete side view. The book gives you a ‘facial template’ (i.e. the circle for the head) and you have to draw the features and the dreaded hair. *ggg

This one reminds me of an alien, even though that wasn’t what I was going for. It was to show a character looking down. Well, at least I got that part right. LOL!

First time that I tried to draw a male figure.

Really sucking with the hair, but the point was to draw a character who was looking up. Don’t quite have it right yet, but it’s getting closer.

This final one is supposed to be a semi-side view. It turned out okay, but like in the others, I REALLY hate the hair.

Good/Surprising News

Yesterday in the mail I received a letter from Tor. I honestly wasn’t sure what it could be, since I’d already gotten my royalty statements. It turns out the letter was a reversion of rights announcement. Yes, you read that right. I now have the rights to RED and SCARLET back. I hope to get the rights to CRIMSON back in November. It was a moment of mixed emotions. I was excited to have the rights back because I can now go through and re-edit/re-write sections of those books with the intention of re-releasing them in paperback and ebook. I was also a little bummed because it drove home that the books/series didn’t do as well as I’d hoped.

I am hoping that will change once I have the whole series back. I intend to have new covers made, even though I thought my covers were good. I haven’t decided whether I’ll hire a fantasy artist to create new covers for me or go for something more mainstream. The prices on the ebooks will drop, but not to $2.99. Sorry, not happening. They will stay in the $3.99 to $4.99 range. The Dead World series’ books are LONG books. I put a lot of work into them and I’ll be putting a lot more into them before they head back out into the world. I plan to hire a professional editor after I make all the changes that I want and a copyeditor. Like I said, I am excited, but it’ll be a while before the new versions of these books go up. I probably won’t do anything until I have CRIMSON back. It was why I asked for my rights back in the first place. Only the second book, SCARLET was available in paperback. Kind of pointless, when the series is a trilogy. :-/

Today I am starting Phantom Warriors: Riot. With any luck, it’ll be done by next week. Wish me luck with Scrivener. This will be the first time I try to write a story using it. :-O
