Do you think he’d go for it? ;) There are actually a LOT of writers who are far better at the writing craft who could help me. I study two of them, but there’s a difference between studying their work and having someone point out where you’re dropping the ball in your own books. I need someone to point out what I’m doing wrong and give me very clear instructions on how to fix the bad habits.

It’s definitely a fine line to walk. I have VERY specific things that I’d like to work on. I’m not looking for an all around writing coach. I don’t need someone to encourage me to finish the book. I’m looking for someone who can teach me how to take my writing to the next level. (Not the top level, just the next level.) Fortunately, I have an amazing BS detector, so I can avoid a lot of pitfalls that come with this type of search.

Unless you can talk Stephen King into becoming your private coach, who the heck could you garner out of a peer group above where you’ve already been that you could trust to improve your writing? :)

You’re getting outside editing help which is always a chore well worth the investment if one can make it. With the other stuff, you may be in danger of seeking the art of the ‘craft’ Holy Grail so hard that the stories don’t have any room to maneuver in your head. :)
